I know probably most of you use the dome type fixture you can find at Pet smart and what not. Well I bought one of the clamp lights from Home Depot ad what a difference! The same bulb was allowed to disperse soo much heat it was great. I think the deep domes are too deep and the heat disperses in the dome instead of in the enclosure. I had to go down from a 100 watt to a 60 so it didnt get too hot. This might be old news for you guys but I just figured Id share since it can save on the amount of watts you are using.

Years ago I used the silver clamp light fixtures from Lowes for my basking lamps. I don't know if these are the same fixtures you are talking about, but just a word of warning... the ones I used had a plastic fitting and using them day in and day out, the heat deteriorated the fitting. I had problems with them melting and/or the bulbs fusing to them and breaking off. The clamp light fixtures that you get from a pet store have a ceramic fitting and can withstand the extreme heat much better. The ceramic fittings are much safer and will last longer than the plastic fittings for prolonged use with heat.
Just my 2 cents! :D

I have a couple of those clamp fixtures from Home Depot. They are called brooder clamp lights and they do have the ceramic fixtures, we made sure when we bought them, for the express purpose of putting the t-rexs in them that we were planning to buy, that and it was a particularly cold weekend and we wanted the extra heat. We used a t-rex 100 watt in it for a little more than one year and are now using the same bulb in it for now.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
