Recently I may have been hyper critical towards other members, and not meaning to do so. Im sorry!! Dont even know if this is the place for this but my story is as follows... I have a friend who admires my animals. "breeding is easy anyone can do it." he says. I rant and rave stating my arguments and so on. Already having a male dragon, he purchases what is "supposed to be" a female dragon. Fast forward to present time. He calls me to tell me he was going to breed the 2 dragons. He puts the animals together, leaves the room to smoke a ciggarette. Comes back to a mangled animal. Both happen to be males. Fiiguring that he had a gauranteed gold mine, and not heeding my advice, a perfectly good animal was torn to nothing. Not to mention the dragon was only 14 inches 10 or 11 months old. So I may have been hypercritical, I just want you guys to see where I am coming from, and tha I am not just being a jerk. I am care about my animals!!!

WOW..... your friend did not know any thing about breeding for one thing... You cant breed a dragon that young!. Also he should of never even left the room. And he should of took that dragon to a vet to get it checked out first of all to even see if it was female or not. I hate it when people do things like that. I care for all my pets to and i try my best to keep them healthy. I make sure i breed right.

ROMMELLAG, thanks for giving us the reason that you have responded the way you have toward other owners that have questions about breeding. It did help clarify why you reacted the way you did and it's very upsetting to all of us that you experienced this first hand, it's a shame that he didn't listen to you before taking it upon himself to just breed them. The innocent beardies are the ones that suffered.

This forum is here to help everyone learn. We encourage lots of questions and want everyone to feel comfortable asking questions. We don't want anyone to be scared away, then have them leave the forum without them learning what we try so hard to teach because then again, the animals we care so much about end up suffering in the end. So, we try to treat every question/concern individually so we can help that particular owner.

Thanks for opening your heart to us and sharing this very sad story. Hopefully others will learn from it.

I also thank you for sharing your story. It's very unfortunate, so say the least, that some people look at animals as a big fat pay check. I feel so sorry for the animals as they definitely suffer in the long run. They definitely deserve a LOT better than what they get when they end up in the wrong hands.

It may sound wrong but I stand by my idea that people should have to qualify to breed ANY animal. Take a test, show they have the ability and knowledge and setups ready before they can have a license to breed any animal.

i think the breeding section is fine for this as it pertains to breeding.
And to lacy_black the problem with what you are talking about would be that the legislation would not stop at licensing to breed them. You would end up having to have a license with the state to own exotic reptiles (which our wonderful government is working on, already almost taken our rights to own large constrictors).

I also agree that this is the best forum for this discussion. That way when people consider breeder, hopefully they will run across this thread and read it even before posting their questions.
