jumping

I have a probably 9 month old beardie that i rescued and he has just started letting me pick him up but as soon as he gets his back legs on my hand he jumps off and runs away. i know im not suposed to let him do that because he will learn thats how he can get away but i dont want to squeeze him and hurt him. is there a better way to hold him so he wont try to jump? when i pick him up i get his belly and then he will grab on with his front legs and wont jump but then when he gets his back legs on he jumps, since i want to hold him proper and fully support him, so how do i do this? Also i hold him flat maybe if i held him more vertical would that help? if someone could give me some advice i would appreciate it.

you could make a beardie burrito.

wrap him in a towel or blanket and hold him. i usually do this around their bed time until they fall alseep.

Try sitting with him while leaned back with him on your chest and both hands cupped over him. Let him know that you are a warm safe place. Do this at night when nearing bed time to lessen the chances of him being overly active. Let him fall asleep like that. With time that jumping should become less frequent. He could just be a hyper dragon that wants to know what is going on over there as well.
