Jumping towards UVB tube

I brought my new dragon home today. He's very lively, which was a big part of why I chose him. Every now and again, he's been running around in his vivarium, jumping and scratching at the glass paines and walls. My Reptisun 10.0 is around 10-12 inches above the flooring of the vivarium and I was particularly concerned when I saw him leap a couple of time, quite high, towards the light.

Is this uncommon?

Is this a risk?

he is probably trying to jump towards it because he is seeking more UVB. With the reptisun 10 he should be able to get within 6 inches of. at 12 inches he is getting barely any uvb.

The UV tube gets within 10-12 inches of the floor. It can get around 8 inches from the blub at its basking spot.

Its possible he is seeing his reflection in the glass!! You could try wrapping his viv with paper.. Just my2 cents...

Hi there,
I must say from personal experience its nothing to do with wanting UVB light or seeing their reflection.
Its pure bad habit.
"whats that??? i cant reach it? I want it. GIMMMMMMIE!"
Miso has been infactuated with her UVB bulb since we brought her home.
It is infact her favourite game to launch herself at it.
I cant put anything underneath her UVB because she will just launch herself off it.

Infact here is a picture from just yesterday of Miso seconds before launching herself at the bulb.

Miso does it less often now she realises she cant "kill the light" but for 3 months that was her favourite game. All. Day. Long.
Now she does it once a day maybe.
Another member called MissT has exactly the same problem. Her dragon however is 2 years old and has managed to distroy about 4 light fittings!
Im hoping she'll grow out of it, because if not I'll have to switch to an MVB because she's going to be big enough to start bloody breaking fixtures soon!


I do however agree your UVB needs to be closer though.
