Hi Everyone,

I recently lost my baby boy Elliott and am I finally ready to get another dragon. The breeder that I got Elliott from felt that I did a wonderful job taking care of Elliott and they felt so strongly about it that they offered me another dragon for free. They said they felt that Elliott may have had something wrong with him from birth so that is why they are making me the offer. They no longer breed anymore due to the time and expense and also the saturated market. But they gave me a choice of 3 dragons. 2 males and a female all about 2 years old. Looking at just the pictures I have one that I am leaning towards, but seeing them in person and experiencing their personality might change my mind, so I'm not sure at all which one I am going to end up with. I was posting to see what everyone else thinks. Also I am not sure on a name. The breeder did not tell me any of their names and I didn't ask. The one I pick might already have a name I like, but if not I don't know what name to give. I was thinking possibly Julius or Spyro. Well, without further ado here are my three choices...

This one is the female and is actually the sister of Elliott who I lost. I guess someone bought her and then brought her back saying that it was too expensive to care for her. Her growth was stunted due to the bad care the first owner gave her so I guess she is on the small side. Also they said her eyes bulge out more often than not and they can't figure out why. You can see it in the picture. They said it does not seem to cause her discomfort.

The next 2 are brothers, one a little smaller than the other...
Male #1

Male #2

I am leaning toward the larger of the 2 males (#2). His colors are gorgeous and he looks nice and big and healthy. Having Elliott's sister would be nice but there are a few reasons I'm shying away from that option. The breeder said that Elliott's death could have been caused by something that was wrong with him from birth. If that is the case than there could be a chance she has the same thing. Also she was not raised right from the get-go and while taking this little girl in would be really special, I am afraid of losing another dragon. It's not as if she is in a bad situation right now. If I do not choose her she will live out her life with the breeder and be well taken care of.

Ultimately like I said I will have to see the three of them in person to make my decision. I am going there Nov 28th to pick up one of these guys or gals. Got the cage completely cleaned, sanitized and ready. Temps have been checked and double checked and superworms are on their way. Let me know if anyone has any input on these guys and a possible name!

They're all very beautiful.
If it were me, I would go with male#2. He looks alert and healthy. Since the breeder said Eliott possibly passed away from a birth defect, it could possibly be passed on to his sister as well. Although, having Eliott's sister would be really nice. It's ultimately up to you. As for names, I'm fresh out of ideas. Try looking at baby names or looking up 'bearded dragon names'. I think Tosney's Bearded Dragon care has a page just for dragon names. :D

Can you believe I've actually already done all of those things the other night and still can't come up with a name I really love? I named my dogs easily, Elliott's name came easy to me...heck I even have a boy and a girl name picked out for my future children. For some reason I cannot come up with a name for this dragon. I'm kind of hoping it will already have an awesome name and I'll be like "Ya that's it!"

I brainstormed a few options for names last night. For a boy I came up with...

Jupiter
Julius
Oliver
Zeppelin
Pan

For a girl I only came up with Magine. I'm not really 100% sold on any of these names.

I actually really like Zeppelin.

my opinion will be of no help, but I've always found it's easier to name something once you've seen it and it's personality. I say that, but my last cat came with his name... it was just too perfect and I couldn't rename him.

Well today was the day! I went and picked up my new little guy at noon. I picked the large male and named him Jethro! And what a LARGE male he is. I did not weigh or measure him because I was trying to keep stress at a minimum, but he definitely quite a bit larger than Elliott was. Elliott was 20.5" and 520grams. I can't wait to see what the new guy weighs and measures in at! He is settling in nicely to his new home. He had some stress marks for the first couple hours but they went away pretty quick. He ate some greens but wasn't too interested in worms. I'm happy he ate though, wasn't sure if he'd be too nervous or not. He even let me snuggle him before bed and he did the butt wiggle and went to sleep on me :love5: :love5: :love5: It's amazing how fast these little guys can wrap you around their claws! Here's a couple of pics. Didn't want to go too crazy with the camera on his first day.

Getting used to his new viv. Look at that long tail...holy cow!

The spot he found to relax in after exploring the house. The positions these beardies find comfy are hysterical!

All snuggled up sleeping on me! :love5:

He's adorable! I though male # 1 was looking for a certain something, curious. Male # 2 looked, to me, exactly like male # 1, just with a different position for his head.

Thanks! Yeah if you look at Male #1 he has white stripes on his arms, legs and tail. Male #2 (Jethro) does not. Also if you looks at the two of them in comparison to the guys hands you can see Male #2 is bigger than Male #1. They are brothers and they did look quite similar though.

Awesome dragon. I am so glad you decided to get a new one after having to go through the untimely death of your other one. I am glad to see I am not the only one who puts their beardie under a blankie. I showed my husband to let him see I am not completely nuts where our beardie is concerned.

PuffyLuv123 - That's actually not me in the picture. It's the breeder, but yeah Nightmare Before Christmas kicks @$$! And yes, I think he's adorable too!

quigleysmom - Yeah, after experiencing having a bearded dragon I realized I did not want to be without one for long. It was SOOO hard to lose Elliott, but Jethro is such a sweetie. I am glad to have him! And no, of course you're not crazy. They love to be snuggled up in blankies!

Jethro had a good second day. Minimal stress marks and he ate a little greens & squash. Still no worms, but I'm not too worried. I gave him a soak in the tub and realized he really loves the water. He was swimming all around. He was scratching his head quite a bit during the bath and it looks like it may shed soon so that'll be cool. I even trimmed his nails a bit. They were REALLY sharp! He let me do all of the back ones and 4 of his front ones...so I have 6 more to get too. I probably could have done them all, but he was starting to be manly and puff his beard so I thought I would try and keep his stress to a minimum and just stop for now. I can't believe his wide variety of colors! With Elliott his color would only vary slightly with Jethro he goes from like darkish browns to very bright oranges depending on his temperature and mood. It's crazy! I think he's part chameleon LOL!

Jethro is really settling in well. He poops once a day and it's normal. He's eating his green every day. He has only had 1 worm since he's been here, but I think he is still going through a touch of relocation stress. He still has the stress marks lightly on his tummy at times, but for the most part he's settling in really well. Here's some new pics!

What you lookin' at?

Hmmm...what should I read?

I don't remember buying that book...

Aw! Who's the cutest dragon ever??? (I know, I know you're all biased)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
