I'll never forget the look on my husband's face after he got bit by a cricket.
"OW! Did he just...I think he bit me!"
"Yep, babe, they bite." I wiggled the rubber glove at him. "If you're going to grab them by the handful, you might try this."
While bugs of any sort don't really bother me, popping the lid off the Rubbermaid tote and seeing 1,000 crickets spring off every surface (including my hands) does give me slight pause. But I have no problem rooting around in the Reptiworm tub and hand feeding large maggots to Jörm!
I don't know if the OP is still following along at all, but keeping crickets really isn't that bad. They require minimal fuss, just keep 'em warm, fed & hydrated, and take a few minutes each day to tidy up the container. Plus, they're super cheap when ordered online in bulk. Because of this, they're a necessity for many lizard owners, myself included.
