Is this normal?

My beardie runs over to the cool end often, where i put a row of smooth rocks in a straight line, and it looks like he's trying to dig or move them aside like he's looking for something behind the rocks but there is only the glass of the tank once he moves the rocks. Am i supposed to provide a dig spot?? Why is he doing this?

He's exploring, playing, interested in rocks. You don't have to provide a dig spot, and a lot of people see issues with having loose substrates. I've thought about having a "sand box" to let Brutus play in, but I don't think I'd keep it in the tank with him. One member had toys for their dragon- I'm not sure how many beardie owners do this- and the dragon would actually roll small balls around. Those rocks must be pretty awesome. :mrgreen: I put some smooth egg-shaped rocks in Brutus's tank around Easter and he didn't touch them.

I agree, he's just checking things out!
You don't need a dig spot, but you could put in a towel or blanket, he will be able to dig around in it, and bury himself in it.
Some beardies love to have their blankets to sleep with.

If you haven't already got one, get him a tunnel or box to sleep in.
Normal dragon bedtime behaviour includes the "cleaning and comfying of the bed" - a few moments worth of digging and scraping.
