Hello all! I am new here. I got my very first beardie today (wanted one for a long time) and it was sold as a "fancy" one....I was wondering if any of you thought it was a particular morph. I am only familiar with corn snake morphs.

Thanks!

There's no way to know the color morph without knowing what the parents were but it definitely looks like a leatherback! That's certainly a special and very pretty baby :)

i wouldnt buy a beardie from any store that didnt label what he was. ive never heard someone say "fancy" beardie. thats funny. it does look leatherback. if so that is the morph as colors are only breeding lines and not morphs.

dont take it back....leatherbacks are harder to come by than normal.....ive wanted a leatherback for a while

i would say it depends on how much you paid. if you got him for a reasonable price i wouldnt take it back. you already have the little guy. nice lookin beardie

I wouldn't take him back, he is a very pretty baby. While you will never know his exact color lineage he definitely isn't a normal. I suspect he will be very colorful as a adult, I would call him a orange leatherback and be happy with that:)

Lots of pet stores call colorful reptiles "fancy", there is nothing wrong with it.

I had no intention of taking him back, but that was the smart butt response warranted by this reply.

Now that the thing is in my home, in a set up, and I am simply wondering about coloring, what is the point in stating you would never buy from a store who didnt label what he was. To show Im a ***** and you are not?

Ive heard of "fancy" beards before because I did a search here and 50 posts came up. I was only asking what he looked like.

Glad I could make you laugh though. Thanks for being so incredibly helpful.

sorry, im old school and my beardie buddies from the 80's would die if they heard someone call a beardie "fancy". awfully silly. sorry about the petstore comment also. i would never buy from a petstore period. i get my beardies from breeders who have been doing this since the 80's and are responsible for most of the color lines you see today. kevin dunne is my best buddy when it comes to getting beardies!! i just got what is probably one of the only guranteed chances of getting a real german giant and that was from kevin dunne. the guy is a pioneer. he's prob responsible for the majority of the orignal color lines. fire and ice dragons claim they developed the citrus line in an 04 reptile magazine article when they got their stock from kevin dunne a few years before that and he had been calling his lines citrus or lemon burst for 10 years before that. just like the sandfire issue. who here thinks sandfire is a morph or color line? well it isnt either one, its just dragons bread from sandfire dragon ranch lines which i might add kevin dunne is in business with now. pretty much kevin dunne, pete weis and bob maillox(hope i spelled it right) are the gods when it comes to beardie breeding and i like to have those names assoiciated with my dragons. a lot of people complain about the higher cost but you can get lineage records and my little guys momma laid an unofficial world record of 68 eggs in a previous clutch so i'll pay for those healthy lines or morphs anyday. kevin dunne got his german giants from pete weis in 94 and pete weis was only able to import them from germany because he is a herpetologist and has a specialized approved facility. so i guess im not knocking you but im the type of guy who does massive amounts of research and homework into what i am getting. i remember the early days when i had monitors and a whole "reptile room" with 30+ animals and every kind of feeder you can think of being bread and i would impulse buy and find out later i didnt get what i thought i got a lot. glad those days are gone. usually reptile people are kinda nerdy, i am in the knowledge sense and when i hear, "i got this fancy beardie what is it" it tells me that person maybe shouldnt have a beardie. sorry to be harsh but ive known way too many cases of this over A LOT of years. its an exotic animal.anyways, i usually just scan the forums and read what i like but i decided to chime in on this one. sorry if i ruffle some feathers but its sad to say i have seen a million times more people get and get rid of beardies then keep them. petstores who list a beardie as fancy do not know anything about what they are doing in my opinion. most petstores except one i know of that specializes in reptiles only almost never know what they are talking about with exotics. ask my vet, we are close friends and he has some stories. wow! thanks

sorry to come off that way i have just been keeping beardies and reptiles for possibly longer then you have been alive and love them so much with a passion. when i see a title to a thread like yours it tell me "no experience." prove me wrong though. whats your temps, tank size(gallons or measurements), food items, lighting, nutrients? im curious to see if this same petstore gave you those instructions also.

Excuse me? "Prove me wrong" I didnt realize this was a place you had to prove yourself as a beardie owner.
Who died and made you king? I thought this was a place to educate yourself.

My post says "no experience" but your post says "complete jerkoff"

Im not an *****, I know not to buy from Pet stores. They co-hab, their reptiles are sick and full of mites. I was merely asking what he was as I was aware their are different morphs, lines or whatever. "Normals" I have seen are greenish and he is orangey.

You response screams "I wouldnt have bought that beardie" and you know what? Who cares.

This is whats wrong with forums like this, they are full of people who cannot find anything to make themselves feel good or important in life, so they do the high and mighty on a beardie forum.

There ARE no dumb questions. How dare you make a newbie feel dumb for asking a question! If you were truly a lover of the reptile you'd be helping new owners, not criticizing them and making them "prove" themselves.

I have him in a 20L for now because he is only 5 inches. He will be moved to a 40 breeder when he is older. YES, I know he will get bigger. He is on a liner because I read sand is bad and since hes young hes going to be putting things he shouldnt in his mouth. His basking spot is 105. His warm side is 85 and his cool side is 70-75. I use an UTH at night on a thermostat set at 75 so he doesnt get too cold downstairs.

I gave him collard greens, kale and mustard greens, butternut squash, berries, but the only thing he will eat is crickets. I was told that was normal with babies. If its not moving, he wont eat it.

I have ordered Phoenix worms as well, they should be here tomorrow.

I am using thermometers with a probe because i know from owning corn snakes, those stick on thermeters dont measure where the animal comes into contact with and they are useless. I also have a repti sun 10.0 UVB linear bulb. His crickets are dusted with calcium vitamins.

Is that enough to satisfy you grandpa?

Im a hot shot on another reptile forum too....only I use my expertise to help newbies, not beat them down.

Shame on you.

that was great. im harsh, i admit it. im used to the days of having to go to the library at the university or know people to get my info so its frustrating to me when so much information is at anyones finger tips with the click of a mouse and they have questions still. i guess im the type of guy who's set in my ways and wants to learn everything myself also. im new to this forum and everyone overall is nowhere near as harsh as i am used to on other forums. ive still never heard fancy. sorry that just tickles me pink. ive just seen the lines and morphs get the mutt syndrome so bad it makes me sad for all the unbelievably hard work the handful of people did in the past to get bearded dragons where they are today in the market. im sorry, i have contacts with importers on every reptile bearing continent, or zone, and they laugh at what we have done with the lineage of most of our reptiles we captive breed. thats why i also get wild caughts on everything allowed to be imported. i miss the days when it was easy to import barbatas. man wish i still had one and those days are gone. the reptile trade in general has taken a drastic turn for the worse even though we have all these morphs and color lines and so on in all different kinds of reptiles. i guess im bitter because i used to make a living doing import/export of reptiles and america's obsession of the masses which rarely lasts has made that virtually impossible these days

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
