Is sand safe?

My beardie, Jake, is about two years old now and I'm re-decorating his enclosure. I've heard of people using play sand like the kind you'd find at Home Depot and it would look a lot better than his grubby reptile carpet. The problem is, Jake licks everything, and by that i mean EVERYTHING :| ! I don't know if that's a common beardie thing or what, but I don't want him eating the sand. Should just stick with carpet? Sand would be nicer and more natural, but I definitely don't want him to get impacted.

some people use the Play sand that has been washed. But the problem, other then the obvious impaction issues that COULD arise, is bacteria that is harbored in the sand from their poops. Unless you empty it out often, you'll be hard pressed to get all of the dirty sand out. And since your beardie licks everything.... i don't think i'd want to risk it if it was my dragon.

Why not try Tile? Slate tile is great, easy clean up and helps keep their nails trimmed. They are pretty cheap and you can get them cut at lowes or home depot.

Good Luck

You could stick with the carpet, or you could get some slate tiles :) They look great, easy to clean, and you can get colors that do look more natural than carpet would. Good luck!

Well for us , spazz likes alfafa pellets , there good for her if she eats some [listed as a stapel] and ez to clean up after her. We get them at the farm store for 8.99 / 50lbs. thats 2.5 60 gal. tank full, and she can dig till her harts content.
If you get the100% alfafa it make the room smell like fresh grass !

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
