Hey everyone, just recently got a 40gal viv for Gandolf. I bought a dual-light fixture for him thats 18" on the top right here with a reptisun 10.0 UVB on the left side and a 60w basking lamp on the right side of it. And don't worry that dial thermometer/hygrometer is in there for Gandolf to climb on. I have a digital thermometer for each side of his viv. Cool side is about 84 degrees and basking rock up top there is about 109 degrees. Does this look alright?

It's only about 4-5" I believe. It's not the long kind, but that light fixture up top has 2 bulb slots so I have my night heat lamp on the shorter side and the reptisun on the longer side. This picture is just a little outdated since just last night I switched the basking bulb and night lamp. Anyways that fixture has reflectors built in so it shines quite a bit of light into the viv.

It looks and sounds as though your setup is fine, yeah, perhaps though, put up a background on 2 sides of the tank so that you beardie doesn't feel insercure, and I like how your using repticarpet as a substrate, which is a great choice.

Thanks a ton! Yeah I keep reading how sand is bad, tile is great, but Carpet is good all around ha.

Question though, how will adding 2 more backgrounds on the sides help? Does it reduce their stress? Is there anything in particular i should put up on the sides? Like could i just go buy some cool scrapbook paper with cool designs on it and tape it to the sides do you think?

Also here is an updated picture of the tank:

You'll notice the lights are a little different from what i first posted. Basking light is in the far right fixture with Reptisun 10.0 UVB right next to it and Gandolf's night lamp is on the left side (obviously not on)

And here's a picture of Gandolf!

You need to lose the reptisun 10.0 coil and get the tube.

Actually, you should just unscrew your coil bulb right now and get rid of it. CFL's can cause more harm than good. The good thing is, at least you have it mounted sideways instead of facing directly down.

Still, it is not suitable at all and should be replaced with the tube.

And unless your night lamp is a CHE, it is disturbing your dragons sleep.

lol....tube, anyway your setup is fine since you have the tube.

And well, because the tank is glass he MIGHT get insecure, but I wouldn't worry.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
