Hey y'all, I'm a first-time beardie owner and I've had my young man for about 3 mos now. I got him from a friend who got him from his uncle, so I don't know too much about his background, but I worked at a reptile place over the summer and my coworkers estimate my guy to be a lil under 2 years old. I didn't measure or weigh him when I first got him, but I measured him today and he's exactly 15". I live in a college dorm and don't really have any weighing device, so I'm stuck kinda judging by eye if my orange fellow Jupie is too skinny.

I've currently got him in a 75 gallon a couple of hides and basking spots, he's got a helllllaaa hot lightbulb and it's cooler on the other side (degrees in the right ranges too), I've got the right UV lights, newspaper as substrate but I supplement his burrowing area with the paper litter used for rodents, so I think it's no problem with his environment. I read on http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html that he should be eating less superworms and more greens and stuff, so I've been giving him mostly butternut squash and collard greens, which is probably why he dropped his weight. He seemed to be almost brumating a few weeks ago so I kinda left him alone, but it also might have been him shedding, anyways, I was feeding him way less because I figured he was gonna sleep. He's not like that anymore and if I wake him up and feed him he's super energetic and runs up and down the stairs and climbs the window screens so I'm not too worried about him being sick. Also, he shed recently and seems to be shedding again.

I guess my question is, what should I be feeding him right now? I bought more superworms today and gave him about 10 with the calcium dust and stuff. Should I just be feeding him way more worms or something? Can anyone help me "appraise" him by eye with age, gender, morph, overall health, whatever?

Here are some pics of him when i first got him:

He looks like a leatherback, and he looks healthy. And yeah definitely feed less superworms, usually around only two per feeding as they are one of the causes for fatty liver disease i believe. If you could try and get dubia roaches and if not that than crickets would be a better staple than superworms. And calciworms are also great. If you could get a shot of his tail, near his vent but still on his tail that might help seeing the gender, 15 inches is quite small, more of a female size but all beardies are different, though i have a 7 month old female whose 15-16 inches so he may not be two years old however improper diet and lights can effect size. He does look more like a 7 month old, in structure at least.

Hi there, he isn't too bad but has lost some weight + should gain more to be a healthy size. Get some of the feeder insects that the other poster mentioned ASAP, you don't want him to continue to lose weight. And yes, to check the gender arch his/her tail up high [ think of how an excited dog has it's tail up , almost over it's back ] while Jupie is flat on a table or on your hand, then snap a few pics of the vent [ rear end ] area.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
