Hi everyone my bearded dragon is 8 months old, in a 40gallon breeder and has been heathly eating greens and a variety of crickets, grasshoppers, mealworms, calciworms and the occasional hornworm. I have three digitable probe thermometors in my tank...
One on the hot side that has the probe sitting on the top of his basking steps, reading about 99-101
One in the middle of the tank that hangs against the wall on the back of the tank midway down , in air should it be touching the ground to get an acc temp? Reading between 84-86
and one on the cold side that is also hanging against the wall midway down, reading 78-80
The lighting i have is a 24 inch strip UVB light hung inside the cage at the top and a 150 watt Basking spotlight on the right side, i know its big but without it, i dont know why but my basking temp drops really low. And for extra heat, i recently got a 100 Watt CHE that sits in the middle of the tank, because the cool side and middle were not getting enough heat from the one bulb. The room i have him is my bedroom and it has a very high ceiling, leading me to think that maybe this is why i was having a hard time with temps without CHE.
But within the last few days messing with different positions of the CHE to get the temps i want it seems like my Beardie does not bask nearly as much anymore , is it because he is too hot and does not need to? or is it that he just likes to spend time elsewhere now that the rest of the tank is appropriatly heated? i mean his beard isnt black but besides basking for a few hours after times i feed him he just doesnt anymore, should i go with a different method that the CHE? or do i just have beardie anxiety..

If he's basking after eating, and eating and pooping ok, I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a basking platform and a long arched bit of driftwood in my viv. After eating/being out/bathing, they like to sit on the platform right under the light, the rest of the day they like to sit at some point on the driftwood, normally in the middle of the tank, but sometimes they'll move closer to one end or the other. I dunno if the wood is more comfortable than the platform, or they like it cos it's higher so they can see me better, but I don't worry at all...they bask when they need to, and they eat and poop fine. I figure the whole point of having a range of temps is so that they can choose the temperature they'd like to be at at any given point, so I just leave them to it.

Yea that's good advice that's how my Viv is set up as well he seems to sit in the middle right under the CHE and just gape sometimes like he's basking but looking for heat under the CHE instead

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
