Hello beardie friends!! Happy pre-Thanksgiving!! I’ve got a couple questions for you! Is it normal that Null spends more time under his basking spot rather than under his uvb? I have been doing so many changes with his lightening trying to get it all right! So I now have a T5 10.0 mounted underneath top with a 6-8” clearance to his hang out and on the other side a 100watt basking bulb 6-8” beneath is his other spot! I have a half log and another log inside his talk for different temps. I have both temp readers, probs and gun, and they can never see eye to eye, so I mainly focus on the prop reading! His basking side ranges from 96-107 and 85 on the cooler side! Night temps drop to about 65 on the cooler nights. He’s on a 7am-9pm light timer. He eats like a piggie, 2 times a day, Dubai roaches and fresh salad daily, which he sometimes will eat and sometimes not! poops well, 2-3 times a day! I take him out of his house at least once a day if not twice for some bonding/exercise time. He always runs straight for my grey walls Or white floor trim running up and down, is that normal? or tries to jump off things( has not succeeded) like he’s some flying object!! last week I noticed he’s sleeping on his floor an hour(ish)before lights out. I’ve done some reading on brumation, but he’s only a baby! 4.5 months old! This any of this normal? Thanks for your time and any answers will be helpful! Oh I did forget to say in the 1.5 months I’ve had him, he’s grown 3” in length! Is that normal? Here’s what his tank looks like!

1. I would put your UVB bulb where the heat lamp is. It's more natural for them to get their heat and UVB (sun) rays at the same time.

2. My baby beardie (2 months old) will be fine in his enclosure, but the moment I take him out, he starts running around like an escaped prisoner. Today, he ran under the couch at light speed LOL. So I would think it's normal for him to run around like crazy once out of the enclosure. My beardie will also jump off EVERYTHING. My hand, the desk, the couch, etc. Scares the living daylights out of me.

3. My beardie also lays down about 30 minutes - 1 hour before lights out.

4. Bearded dragons grow A LOT in their first year of life, so the 3 inches in a month and a half is perfectly normal.

Everything you are asking is just showing he's healthy and happy. If anyone else has any comments on this, please correct me.

I agree with trying to get some overlap between basking & UVB lights, but he'll seek out what he needs/wants.

In the northern hemisphere, days are getting shorter--only about 3 weeks from solstice. My 9 week old is on a 12/12 lighting schedule, and sleeps/wakes fine (though when he's asleep it's hard to tell if he's sleeping or dead--he doesn't move a millimeter all night :lol: ) You don't have to shorten it that much, but you might try shortening his days by that half-hour & see what happens...

He's still your baby, but I think 4½ months puts him more in the juvie range. YMMV

Bearded Dragons can be broken down into 4 age groups. Hatchlings is from 0-2 months, Juvenile is from 2 months to 7 months, Sub-Adult is from 7 months to 18 months, and Adult is 18 months on.
