Is Anyone Allergic To Dubias??

Hi All,

I've had a dubia colony for almost 3 years. But for the last 6 months or so, I've noticed that I now am allergic to my colony (basically being near my bin or getting roaches for our beardies).

Is there something I'm missing as to why I would now get an allergy after all this time of no allergies??

My throat itches and nose runs. It sucks, but maybe someone has an idea I could try. BTW, I keep my bin clean so there's never dead dubias or a ton of frass at the bottom.

You can always develop spontaneous allergies, and dubia frass is actually one of those things that quite a few people are allergic to. When I first got mine, I had no problems with them, but now that my colony is large, every time I dig in their bin my nose runs like crazy. Best I can advise you is to open a window, or take the bin outside if you have to mess around with it. Running a fan in the window while I tended to them helped me some.

Yes. I am allergic to dubias. I was not before and now when i handle them my nose runs, i sneeze and it gets clogged. I've only had them for a year in my room (windows open to help circulate air).

What i do to help it is i use a respirator and some gloves. Even though i am using them, my allergy still goes but it's not as bad.

I'll just have to be more careful moving the stuff around inside their bin!!
