Is A Water Dish Necessary?

I've been putting a water dish in Lestat's enclosure since I got him. He doesn't seem interested in it at all but has gone over to it a few times to put his arms in for a moment. I give him bath soak 3 times a week and each bath lasts about 10 minutes. I can't tell if he's getting any water to drink during bath time though. I occasionally use my fingertip to drop a little droplet on his nose and he drinks that, but sometimes shakes it off. I also mist his salad several times a day with a water bottle. Do I need to still have a water bowl in his enclosure or would it be fine to remove it permanently?

I think alot of people dont use water bowls. I was using one but my beardie never touched it so I now mist her and her food instead. The best way I have found to get Tohru to drink water is by hand feeding her some greens that I dipped in water first.

I supplied a water dish for my dragons when they were younger (~2-6 months) after this I remove it. Thor my youngest at the moment still gets fresh water daily

That's what I think I'm going to do. I mist Lestat with a water bottle sometimes. He gives me this look like I'm really annoying him when I do this though. :? He really owns me... as I baby him so much.

A first my little guy ignored his. I feared the humidity was too high (sometimes 40%) so I removed it. I give him bath every 3 days or so. Well he's been shedding and today at misting (I remove him and lightly mist him because he seems so itchy) and he spotted a small pool of water in my palm while holding him and he slurped the water up like a dog. It was so cute. And then I felt bad. So I put his water back in and he got off his jungle gym several times to go get a drink. It's so freakin' cute. When I figure out how to post a video- I have to share. He's so cute.

So I'll keep mine in there until he starts ignoring it again or the humidity goes up.

put a small bit of water in the veggie dish with the veggies misting directly your beardie not only raises the humidity but also can cause Upper resp infection, best thing to do is make sure they have fresh veg every day and prey thats where they get the hydration from, along with proper tub time for soaking as they absorb water through their vents skin and if you sort of move the water with your fingers in front of them they will actually drink because the movement of the water... at least thats what all 3 of mine do when I do that.

I do use one in my young adult beardie's viv, but not in the baby's viv, as she is hand fed the water via a bottle or dropper. With Illidan, I also hand supplied her water, but when I wanted her to learn to drink I began to put the water bowl into her viv at around 4 months of age. Then I began to take the water from the bowl into the dropper and putting it on her nose, then putting some back into the bowl, so that she could see the source of the water. She caught on and began drinking from it.

I was wondering if misting could possibly cause an URI. Thanks for that info. I certainly don't want to cause something like that to happen. I've been misting his salads and giving him a bath a few times a week. I also put droplets of water on his nose. He's just not interested in his water dish at all. So, I'm hoping he's getting water with the other methods I use (bath, misting food).

Out of curiosity, what is the proper humidity level?

Mine loves to eat out of my hand so what i do is when i'm choppin up her salad i let some soak in water for a few and then hand feed her the wet stuff along with a soak a few times a week it seems to work well.

20-40 percent

misting salad is fine i do it all the time and a lot of people suggest it

I used one when I first got my very first dragon because that's what petco "recommended" after reading around and seeing that he swam in it more than he drank from it I took it out. Plus it was his favorite place to take care of business, so to avoid nasty water I took it out all together.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
