Is a humidity gauge necessary for egg container

My female layed yesterday iam wondering if a humidity gauge is really necessary for the container?
The vermiculite is damp when you squeeze it a couple drops come out. Can I go without a gauge or it’s safer to buy one ?

I never used one for any of my clutches. The moist vermiculite is the important thing, I had nearly a 100 % hatch rate.
