Introducing The Amazing Barnabus!

Hello! I am a 4th grade science teacher in Arkansas and I got my bearded dragon last November. I had done all kinds of research for months prior to adopting my baby, so I was really excited to bring him home. I had read, on this website among others, that beardies are among the most tame and social lizards available. I had planned on keeping him in my classroom, but at that time I was not expecting to fall so deeply in love with this sweet boy! So now, Barnabus has his own little carrying case and he goes back and forth with me every day to school and back... and to be honest, he doesn't really stay in his little carrier in the car! He loves to sit on my shoulder and look out the window and if it is really early he will nuzzle his little face into my neck and sleep all the way to school. I never imagined myself being so attached to a reptile but OMG how I was wrong! I have 2 precious dogs who absolutely love him, especially my chihuahua, Harley who is his BFF. A chihuahua and a bearded dragon....who would have even imagined! I love taking him to school to visit classrooms. He is not the only bearded dragon at my school, as a matter of fact he is one of 4. However, he is the most popular because of his kind and calm nature and personality! My students absolutely love him and draw him pics and write him notes all th e time! He has definitely become part of my family and I can't imagine not having his sweet little face as part of my life! I am a bearded dragon lover forever!

He is just so adorable. I love when they climb right up against your neck. I always feel bad when I have to move (typically working on the computer) and wake my little guy up, but right back they go.

Fantastic pictures...My Silver is a snuggler too. I never thought reptiles could have such personalities. Nice that the kids love him! Some people have unfair automatic anti-reptile reactions....so train them young!

My mom calls me "Ellie Mae" just because I seem to be the patron saint of lost and abandoned animals.... Since I was 17 i have had 3 dogs, 2 cats, rescued and found homes for 3 kittens and 2 dogs... It was only natural for me to find another species to love! LOL! I have always wanted an iguana but after I did research I decided a beardie was just right for me! At my school we have a lot of special needs students who are very difficult to appease.... When they have made good choices all day and have had great behavior, their teachers have asked me if petting my dragon could be their reward! I love that he is such a great motivator! He has already made an impact on those kiddo's lives! I am so proud to be his dragon mommy! I do not have a particular fondness for snakes but for most other reptiles I do... I find myself taking pictures of all of the babies in the pet stores (of all varieties) and sending them to my husband... maybe wishful thinking he will say, "bring one home"! I am so attached to my Barnabus it is ridiculous! It really does amaze me how much he tugs at my heart! I absolutely love it when he snuggles! Whenever he tries to snuggle and get comfy we call it the "Barnabus Butt Wiggle" and that's how we know he is comfy! I couldn't do without it now!
