Hi everyone,
I have been meaning to do this for awhile since I joined.
To start off...well um..my name is Ally and I am a PetCare Specialist at PetSmart (don't throw sharp objects at me I am seriously against them on a lot of things). I work there to mainly to save up money for Vet school which, (if I ace my chem diploma) I will be attending next year but the easy acess to crickets and the employee discount on them is a pretty sweet deal. I guess I do owe PetSmart for introducing me to Beardies since I was terrified of reptiles when I started working there. The very first rep I got to hold were Beardies since they don't bite or get frightened the way most reps do with people that are nervous holding them-TOTALLY LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT-.
A month ago (give or take a day or two) early December I trekked to the only supplier of Daichu Dragons in all of Canada. I didn't care that she had a shed constriction on her tail so she'd lose the tip, I didn't care that part of her front claw had been bitten off, and I didn't even care that she was four 1/2 months and only 8 inches..oddly she was the biggest out of all her sibs in the bucket. I didn't even know she was a leatherback till I got to the til but I had wanted a Daichu Dragon so bad (being the only site I had used to look at different strains Beardie pics when I was researching them) this was just a bonus!
First Bath
Say ahhh
A few weeks later (December 23, 2009 to be extract) I came home to discover that my boyfriend had bought me a Beardie for Christmas. Now at first I wanted him to take the little fellow back because not only had he picked out a male but this one was so much smaller than Gaz. My boyfriend had thrown the reciept out because he didn't think I would want to return a Beardie and working at PetSmart I knew that it meant no reciept no dice (he had bought him from another PetSmart). There were moments when I stared at Dante and cursed fate (and my boyfriend even more) for throwing this Christmas present at me; he's bitten me about five times now in the last two weeks, he has problems catching crickets, and to top it off I am constantly nervous about having two Beardies of the opposite sex in a 40 gal. BUTTTT...I have to say there's just something about him even though he isn't as beautiful as Gaz he has one little fiesty personality..and he needs me...he really really needs me <3
Gaz sure has grown
