Introducing hornworms

Hey guys, quick question!

I was thinking of getting some horn worms for my beardie to see if he'll eat them. I read that they're a good source of hydration and they're easy to chew. But would 7" inches or so be considered too small or too young?

He's roughly about a month and a half old and I'm just considering some options for feeders. Got some dubia and BSF larva coming in this week but I'd like to add a little more variety. :)

Hi, most beardies love hornworms and your beardie wouldn't be too small IF you request tiny or small ones. They grow VERY quickly so don't order anymore than one cup with the chow. www.lindasgonebuggie.com has them for a very reasonable price. Small silkworms and calci-worms (which are very small, may want to get those in mediums), are very good feeders too. Linda has a variety of feeders on her site.

Okay, good. ^-^ What would you say is a good way to introduce him to these? His breeder mainly did superworms/dubias/phoenix worms and so I believe these will be a new treat.

Just place it in the tank or use my feeder tweezers to hold it infront of him?

Well, if he is used to you always using the feeder tweezers, you could do that. I just hol them in my fingers and they grab them right away. Or you could put them on the bottom of the tank. Their green color seems to entice them.

Let us know what he thinks of them

-laughs- Pretty much their equivalent to our: "Shiny? My shiny?" eh? :p

Okay, ordered! I'm hoping they get here soon. I have a feeling Nanaki is really going to enjoy them. :)

Both my steve and rusty love them, only as treats, and rusty has done a cartwheel off his basking platform for them.

 I don't doubt it! I'd like to see a beardie cartwheel though. :)

I've seen mine take a running leap off his perch when I pull out his bugs and run into something on the way down. He'll then pause then glance at me like: "You saw nothing!".

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
