okay so ive ben breeding beardies for a while now, ive never seen this before. They are the only two from the clutch that was mutated, this clutch was laid on April 14 2014, during the blood moon. The last egg came out as the total eclipse subsided. weird huh?

This one has a beautiful curled tail, its perfect looking! he is healthy too, eating well active and whatnot.

Now this guy is interesting, his tail is messed up and there is a blue spot on his head, the scales around the parietal eye are BLUE! the camera truly doesn't do it justice. He is also almost a silk back, he has very very fine scales. The color of the head reminds me a pic I saw of a "purple paradox" morph

Why do you guys think im getting these mutations? none of the other clutches produced by this female had any deformities, just perfect little hypo-sandfire beardies.

Was it the blood moon? :p or is this just incredible coincidence?

but none the less let me know what you think! i personally think the curly tail is the cutest thing ive ever seen :]

How odd, but the curled tail is really cute! It would be interesting to find out how many dragons have hatched with a curled tail. Could it possibly straighten itself out? The other dragon does indeed have an unusual coloring around his 3rd eye. Would love to see pictures as they grow. Are you planning on keeping these two?

ill be keeping these! im going to try and see if i can make a new "spring tail" morph:p or if i can get more blue babies :D can wait till they mature :blob8:

I can pull the tail out straight but it springs back to the curl, seems like the bones solidified in that arrangement. The hatchling however, still has control of the tail, its not a true prehensile tail, id consider it pseudo prehensile.

I have no clue how many hatchlings are born like this, over the years ive hatched 200+ beardies. Never seen anything like this.

ill be sure to document their growth:)

That curled tail is interesting for sure, and very cute. Would be interesting if it proved out as a healthy morph! Have you shared these on any of the forums breeders frequent? I wonder if anyone has seen similar. The blue headed one reminds me a little of how you can see the organs through belly skin on some lizard hatchlings.

Okay, that curled tail is utterly adorable! How much flexibility does the tail have? It looks a bit discolored from the normal body. Fused joints maybe?

I have seen several dragons hatch with "pig tail" and slightly kinked tails. Sometimes the kinks will straighten out with age (don't know about the pig tails). It seems to be more situational than genetic to me. I feel (though I could be wrong) that things just get a bit cramped /oddly positioned in the egg sometimes and the tail develops that way. The fact that kinks sometimes work out leads me to believe that the tail wasn't sitting in it's natural position as it developed and had nowhere else to go/grow. Again, I could be wrong, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents. Adorable dragons!

The color around the parietal eye is cool! It's usually found in iguanas and toads and things, but never on a beardie. Best of luck with your dragons!!!

Thanks for the input everyone!

After doing some research, I found that the kinked tail is due too the egg sitting in an odd position like darkwing said, or because of the egg desiccating in on itself. I couldnt find as much info on the pigtail tho, I'm still searching around.

The pigtails tail is still curly, It has a decent amount of movement, nothing crazy like a prehensile tail, but some.

Still can't explain the blue spot, it's still there, and even more brilliant. I named that one "sapphire"

Neat!

I love the curly tail. I have a cat that often sits and sleeps with his tail curled up into a circle. We nicknamed him "Possum" cuz of it.

I had one that hatched with the tail curled under its body. It could not walk because if it. I tried to use a toothpick and tape to straighten it. I eventually put the animal to sleep. It turned into a cruel form of torture for the animal.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
