Injured Toe

Hello all,

I opened our heavy sliding door without realizing Cally's foot was on the track - I'm beating myself up about it.

It didn't really bleed that much but his toenail is mostly ripped away. He's was a bit tender for a while but is now fully romping around again. Reading here it looks like we can apply some neosporin. After that can we wrap it or do anything else? We haven't visited a vet yet in the area but I did use the finder to find one locally that we wll give a call in the am.

Accidents happen. Yes you can apply plain neosporin and keep the wound clean to help it heal and prevent infection. If it heals over properly it shouldn't cause a big issue in the long run. The nail may stay or fall off and heal over but the key is to prevent infection since that could wind up causing a more severe issue. A nail loss or healed over wound shouldn't be a big issue in itself though.

Appreciate the response Coop. Hopefully the nail does grow back - the wife and kids are about ready to shoot me as it is. But as you say the thing we are most apprehensive about is infection. We may have to keep his free range lifestyle restricted to his cage for a spell.
