Just looking for a reputable breeder to get silkie from  . I know my gf would love her own baby, and I know frank would love a girlfriend, and also I'd be interested to see about breeding him with a silkie. Few questions though: :?:
1. Do silkies have the same color morphs?
2. Is there a way to find a silkie snowfire?

Just trying to get all the facts before i invest in anything new thanks for your time and help :D

Where abouts are you located?

I know you should not breed a female silkback. Because of their delicate skin, they can get injured whilst mating.

I think breeders breed 2 leatherbacks or male silkback with female leatherback to produce silkbacks... someone please correct me if I'm wrong here!?

I got my silkback from Kaizen reptiles. He's a great guy and had a lot of nice silks a few months ago.

Also, Faunaclassifieds sometimes has silks for sale.

It's advised not to breed female silks as when they mate, males will bite on the back of the head/neck and can cause injury. Their skin is a little delicate (feels like a gecko's skin as opposed to dragon scales) and they sometimes need help shedding with lotion or extra bathing. Silks do have the same color morphs for the most part. I haven't seen as wide of a variety yet, but they're still not as widely bred. There are definitely translucent and hypo silkbacks though.

I think you should also get your housing set up properly first. Silkies require a little different care with the lotion or cream. Females should never be bread. When dragons mate, the male bites the neck of the female and claws at her. The delicate skin of a silkie would rip.

My location is WA state. Good to know, of course that's why I asked, I'm still new to this, but the idea of the silkie is pretty neat to me. Didn't know about the mating info regarding the females. Makes sense though, I suppose I'll ammend my plans to get one for a breeder, and just focus on getting one for snuggle time.

Again this is great information. I really didn't know much about them when I started out looking into getting one. I don't know much about breeding either, I didn't realize that the males would be so aggressive during mating. So I suppose the way to go would be to get the male silkie and breed it with a leatherback female if you were going to do something like that?

Don't worry about my housing. I wouldn't get another dragon without getting it's home set up in advance of it's arrival! Again, good tips on the silkies. I didn't know!

Silkies x anything = Leathers. Silk x leather = wouldn't want to see. The mutations for a silkback are maxed out, and to breed it to another mutation like another leather would probably be a lot of deaths and birth defects. Another mutation you don't want to mix is trans x trans.

so how does one go about breeding silkies then? Just something I've been wondering all day XD

I normally dont spend allot of time on the forums but i was bored and surfing around, and i seen this i know its a little old but i figured as i produce a nice amount of silks i would help out here.

Right now we have around 20 silk babies, these silks are produced from either a few different routes.

silk x silk = 100% silks
silk x leather = 50% leather and 50% silks(this is a rough estimate it can be higher or lower either way but in general its fairly close)
leather x leather= 50% leather and 25% silks and 25% normals(like before it can very but this is standard)
I personally mainly breed Italian leathers i have worked with a very small amount of American leathers, and have found them to work the same as the italians and also will produce silks with an Italian, but as i said i have not done much breeding with them and have also not worked with recessive leathers so this is the most info i can give from my own personal results.

Also as for silks that are produced from silk to leather i have had no more issues with those silks as i have with leather X leather in fact i have a silk X leather clutch that hatched with 4.5 in babies, witch is a very good sized baby.

If anyone wants more info feel free to email/ or message me on facebook as it might be a while till im on bd.org again.

wow you have a lot of silkbacks! I have 2 nice lethers that I would like to breed after they are done burmating. Do silk backs not sell as easily as others might?

I Have no issue selling them, they just need to be healthy and well started, and for some eye candy some sweet little babies hatching today.

Oh yeah for the math lesson those are from a double het Italian leather X poss double het Italian leather(so far trans is a yes) should have around 25% silks 25% normals and 50% leathers. if you want to see more pics of the clutch as they hatch they are on the facebook as its a pain to post them all on here. both parents are on there as well.

Tundra Dragons is also producing silks right now, with two italian leatherback (gorgeous) dragons. One is double het, the other has proven het for trans.

I am getting a cute little silk from this clutch which started hatching about 4-5 days ago. He is on facebook if you want to check out his pictures! All his babies are really well taken care of and healthy, and the 6 silks are crazy nice.

I guess i was just paying attention to the information side of this thread, and not the sales side, we have silks pretty much at all times so anyone looking for one can find a very healthy one with a great support team with years of silk care and we also provide a care sheet as well just for the basic info but are always here for any and all questions for customers and just anyone who needs the help.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
