I'm worried about my dragon

I'm really worried about my bearded dragon. I only got him a few weeks ago and this is the first time I've left him. I popped back home for easter, (left yesterday eve and am heading back Mon morning so he's on his own 3 days). I've just realised I've stupidly left his lights on. I bought a timer to use but completely forgot to plug it in and now I'm panicking that he's not going to be able to sleep or something really bad is going to happen because his light has been left on.

Can anyone tell me if he's going to be ok? I'm debating going back to London (where he is) to check he's going to be ok. I'm seriously worried :-s

Do you have anyone who could just pop in and shut them off? Even a pretty young baby will be okay for 2 days or so without lights as long as they had time to digest their last meal. I would be nervous leaving the lights on for that long because of the risk of dehydration, not to mention just the normal stuff associated with leaving lights on.

What kind of bulbs do you use and how do you measure the temperatures? What are the hot and cold side temps? Also how old/big is your dragon?

If there is nothing you can do, then there is nothing you can do, but if it were me, I'd try to get the lights switched off.

Hiya,

He's 2 and a half years old, (but I only got him recently as the owner didn't want him anymore the poor thing) and 12 inches from nose t end of the tail. I'm not sure off the top of my head the lights that are used but they are the ones he's always had and not had any problems.

I think you're right though. I'm going to try and get someone to go round and turn them off. He'll probably be better off with them off than on. I just really hope he's ok! I've got a lot of making up to do when I'm back! I'm so worried he's going to dehydrate or get too hot!

Also, I don't mean to pry or run off topic, but 12 inches is VERY small for an adult beardie. I know you just got him, but that kind of stunted growth can be indicative of major problems. When you get a chance, poke around the forum, check out the care sheets, and feel free to ask any questions you think up about providing the best lighting, heating and dietary options for your dragon. This is a great community, with people who are genuinely interested in the best possible care for every beardie, regardless of who they belong to. In the vein, I just want to make sure that your beardie is living the happiest healthiest life you can provide.

Oh no. That's worrying. I'm still new to all of this so didn't even think he was small for his age! He's well built though and has a lovely temperament. He eats fine, though often I have to put his veg on a worm so he will eat it. I'm a bit worried now. I'll definitely look up how big he should be. I've definitely still got a lot to learn but I want to give him the best possible home ever.
