What is your light/heat setup? And what is the year-round weather like for you? No need to give a location, unless you want to. I live in Southern California (which is relatively warm year-round), and I have one beardie housed in a 40 gallon tank. I have a 150 W Zoo-Med reflector white light directly over his basking spot, but I can't seem to get the temperature up to 105° or higher. I also have a 100 W house bulb and a 60 W house bulb over the tank to maintain around 80° for the cool side. I also have a Zoo-Med 10.0 UVB tube bulb.

I'm currently keeping his tank in my bedroom, so I do not want to go with a MVB. I think it would heat my entire bedroom up way too much.

I have a 40 gallon and live in the midwest. I have an MVB and a ceramic heater in the winter. For you, I would say a regular light bulb on the cool side and maybe also use a ceramic heater in the winter. Always have a UVB of course. I reccomend, if not MVB, a light that goes all the way across the tank. So the reptisun 10.0 strip is the best if you can't get an MVB.

i have a 40 gallon breeder tank... and i have a 100 W zoo med basking bulb about 6 inches from my basking branch which is at 106-110 at all times.. and then i have a 24" zoo med repti sun 10.0 uvb flourescent tube, in flukers reflective hood... and im in PA which is like 15 outside right now... but even at night when i turn off the heat. the tank gets to about 60 degrees. my basking bulb is in a 7.5" fixture and its to the right of the tank.. the temp with that bulb is consistent , i've used other bulbs both regular house and repti-spot bulbs like 75 watt, but never got the right temps..

I also am located in southern CA and have two 40 gal tanks with MVB's and they work excellent. It keeps the room at a comfortable temp without overheating to me. During the day I've just been opening the window a bit and at night I use a ceramic heat emitter for them to keep up high enough temps and to maintain their appetites. Using high wattage household bulbs to maintain the correct temps are going to heat up your room just as much as using the one MVB bulb.
However, the repti-sun 10.0 and a household bulb or two will do you fine as well if that is the route you're looking to take. I would also consider using a ceramic heat emitter bulb for night time use so there is no light, but it will help greatly to keep your beardie warm and happy.
Good luck with your set-up!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
