Idea for enclosure

Alright so I have a 40 gallon tank. It is 37 inches long and 17 inches wide. I want to get a 20 by 17 inch pice of slate for the hot side of his tank and then put playsand on the other side. Does this sound like a safe bet for the substrate of an adult BD?

I think a lot of people use slate, and other use sand. Shouldn't be a problem and gives two different areas for the beardie.

A lot of people use tile across the entire viv just for sanitation purposes. Very easy to clean up. So it basically comes down to personal choice.
