Hi! I checked in on Stryker this morning and found his cage a mess-carpet all bunched up and basking wood all askew and Stryker running around like crazy and I mean, this was weird because he mainly stays on his basking spot all day and hardly ever moves around. I think my 10 yr old granddaughter, who's suppose to be taking care of him daily messed up his tank.
He was a year old in January and is 18 inches long and over 456 grams.
Anyways, he pooped in the tank about 2 or 3 days ago and it was black and sorta tarry looking. This morning, there's a large GREEN slimy/muscusy poop in his cage with a normal urite. He had a bath yesterday, but did not poop in it as usual-and because of vacation, went about 5-6 days without a bath. Usually he gets one every 3 days and poops in it. I don't think he's impacted, but I could be wrong.
He doesn't eat much salad, very often, even though he's given a fresh one daily. Last night he did not eat his Kale. I've tried the recommended different greens. Doesn't interest him. Neither do raw squash or apple. Sometimes he'll go for a blueberry or two. Usually he'll eat his salad the next day. I try to alternate greens every few days, but I don't mix the different types. He does seem to like Spring Mix the best-that's what he was raised on the first 4 months at the pet store.
The other thing is he ignores the crickets. Doesn't matter if they're large or small. He lets them crawl all over him! He must eat some eventually, because their numbers decrease. He gets about 50 crickets twice a week (100). I also switched him to superworms from mealworms and he seems to like these, but the little suckers escape the lagoon shaped feeding dish and go hide under the repti carpet. We usually feed him 20 Superworms a day. Because my GD is feeding him, I can't be certain she is dusting the critters correctly, though I have it written out for her.
We've always taken care of him around 8-10 pm. Do you think that's a problem?
He had a fecal when I first got him. Everything was ok, then.
He finally has the right lighting as of September, though I can't be certain of temps in his 40 gallon tank as I don't have thermometers anymore. I want to get a temp gun soon.
Any advice would be appreciated. I know I have to keep a closer watch on Stryker, instead of leaving it to my granddaughter who lives with us.
