I will be adopting a bearded dragon - I have a few questions

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but have been wanting a bearded dragon for a while now and I will finally be getting one! :mrgreen:

my bf's mom will be giving me her bearded dragon that she has had for about 6 months or so (those are her words so I'm guessing she doesn't know her exact age) so considering the BD is 6 months + will it be hard for me to tame her? She also let me know that she's a bit of a ~B word and needs a lot of taming (that is one of her reasons of letting me have her because she doesn't have the time to tame her like one should) -- so by putting a shirt of mine for scent purposes + hand feeding her/handling her and being around her, will she warm up to me? (considering that his mom has had her for 6 months and she's been a bit mean) - It's not impossible right?

Also, I'm sure she will want to bite me - does the bite hurt? I also read that even if it bites me, I should continue to hold her that way she knows that she's not scaring me.

Any other tips? What should I expect/worry about (or not worry about)?

I just really hope she gets used to me and changes her "mean" attitude.

Hi and welcome. Glad that you will be taking in that beardie. Usually they can and do come around with proper handling. Especially since yours is hopefully younger, it wont take to long to come around. They are kind of skittish and jumpy at a young age anyway, so there may not be too much to her attitude problem. Now I have a beardie that I adopted June of last year, and was already 2 years old, and he does still try to bite me sometimes. He does have the tshirt in there with him, and I try all those things. but he does still try to bite. If they are younger, their bites dont hurt so much, but as they get older and stronger, their bites can hurt.

Hi, thank you for replying. So i asked my bf and he said that his mom may just be scared of it because her 2 daughters hold her with no problem. (she still has a bit on an "attitude" but not so much as his mom may have said since she's scared) - When he told me that, I think It'll be easy (hopefully) for her to adjust to me.

I haven't seen the beardie yet but he told me that it's about 6 inches? It's small ... and she's had him for about 6 months ... so, that's not good right? Shouldn't they be a bit bigger :?:

Yes definitely. My beardie was 6 inches when he was 2 months old. He is a bit over 6 months now and is over 15". With the proper care though hopefully she will start growing quickly for you.
