Please help- my dragon has been very restless and digging at the sides of her cage for maybe 4 weeks now! We just got her a "dig box" with alfalfa pellets, thinking that was the issue. She's been digging so much that the nails on her back feet are down to the quick. One started bleeding yesterday, so we put a little bit of flour on it and put paper towels on the bottom of her terrarium. We currently have slate tile.
Well when I put the paper towel down, I moved her wood and found a small orange "egg" shaped thing. My husband ended up squishing it (not knowing what it was) and stuffed oozed out of it. But it was orange, not white like the pictures I see of usual bearded dragon eggs.
So we made her a dig box in a LARGE tupperware container and filled it with 2 50lb bags of play sand. I wet it down to hold the shape and put two flood lights on the outside to keep her warm. Well, she loves it. However, I'm very concerned about how deep she is digging! She is about 15" long and she digs a hole deep enough to be completely inside the tunnel, is that normal? I'm very paranoid the cave will collapse on her! I finally pulled her out when I could barely see her and put her inside the cave, tail first. I was hoping she would lay her eggs, but she didn't. She sat there, spun back around, and kept digging. I left her in there for an hour and a half, but no luck. I finally took her out because I was so worried she would just keep digging to where I couldn't get her out if I needed to. The sand is about 8" deep.
Any advice please? I'm very concerned that she's been this way for a month and I feel like she needs to lay ASAP or else
