Okay so just 2 days ago I got my new beardie from an expo she is a little bit under a year , she is a leatherback & at first she was very friendly and calm & all of a sudden she’s been acting weird & shaky , and scared. Which I get can be normal at first since she’s getting to know me and her cage , but yesterday night & today she’s been scratching on the floor under her cave for several minutes at a time & when I try to pick her up her chin automatically puffs up and I get kinda scared because I don’t want to get bit or anything , I did some research on her scratching the floors w/newspaper and supposedly she might be pregnant but the owner never told me she might be laying eggs anytime soon ... I’m confused

Beardies below a year old don't usually lay eggs and when they do become gravid most reabsorb them from my knowledge if they are infertile. This is because egg laying takes a lot from their body and if too young it can be a bit fatal for them. Though some beardies even at a young age do lay infertile eggs rather than reabsorbing them.

Most beardies will dig in their cave, this is completely normal thing to do.
My two of my two year old beardies (male and female) if they go in their hides they normally dig around a bit before resting, and sometimes especially my female will dig for a while in the paper towels.

My yearling/sub-adult beardie will occasionally do this as well however she is still unsure about hides so she rarely goes underneath them.

She's probably just scared and wanting to go somewhere dark, quiet and safe rather than out in the open since you just got her. If she does have eggs you can usually feel them as they will feel like bumps in their stomach from what I hear.

Hello,

Did you upload your pictures here using the XIMG function here in the message box?
They are not showing up right now.
Is she eating very well? It can take a couple of weeks for them to become adjusted
to a new home.
They can lay infertile eggs as young as 6 months but usually not. You could just in
case, make a laybox to give her something to dig & if needed, lay eggs in.
How is she doing today?

Try doing the photos this way: Click on "User Image Uploader" in the Taskbar at the top of the page, and this will allow you to select and upload each individual photo to your account, one by one. Then after you get all of the photos you want to post uploaded to your account, then click to "Post A Reply", and when the white text/message box pops up, click on the "XIMG" button right above the text box, and this will bring up all of the photos that you have already uploaded to your account. Then you can just select each photo you want to post, one by one, and they will be inserted into the text/message box wherever the cursor is in the box.

Since you've only had her for about 2 weeks, she may be in her hide/scratching in her hide due to an issue with your husbandry, such as inadequate/improper UVB light, Basking Light, or improper Temperature Zones as well. That's another common cause of them acting frantic, scratching at the tank, and constantly going under their hides. So try to post a photo showing her entire tank/enclosure as well as how you have her lights set up over the tank. And if you could tell us EXACTLY what UVB light and Basking Light you have, and what her Temperatures are, that could possibly give us some answers as well.

Having 250 watts of heat in an enclosure is a lot. What size is the tank? And, what type of thermometer are you using, what are the temps?

Also, what is the distance of the Power Sun to her when she is in the basking spot? Is there a reason you are using a MVB and a Zilla UVB bulb?

It's possible that she is too hot and may be scratching the newspaper to try to cool down.

Oh no I only put the power sun in the 100 watts & the uvb. The other one we have Just in case & the temps are between 90-110 . She’s in a 50 gallon tank. She sits on top of the rock we bought her that’s under the owner sun and I would say it’s probably 6-7 inches apart

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
