Hello,

Where do you live? If you live here in the United States or Europe, your dragon should NOT be brumating at all. Are you in Australia perhaps? If so, you are entering winter so brumation is normal for that time of year.

i read the care sheets and it says they can brumate at any time of the year. i am no expert, but i did read the whole article on brumation

Hello,

Canada? Ok, sorry I forgot to include that country.
Your dragon should not be brumating. How long has she been acting this way?
Could you go over your tank setup with us?
How old is your dragon?
What type & brand of UVB are you using, is it a flourescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light? Do you supplement with calcium?
Yes, they can brumate at any time of year, but usually they normally brumate at the colder portions of the year. It is best that we go over your setup first.

maybe i should get a second opinon, i took her to a vet and he said if her non eating continued he would want a blood sample. her fecal test did not show any bactiria or parisites that were not normal. he also informed me a blood sample could result in her loosing her tail. YIKES only as a last resort would i put her through that

I'm glad you got her to the vet. When in doubt, go to vet.

WOW, that is one nice enclosure! Lucky beardie, I bet she loves it!

ya she does, but she just sleeps in her hide to the left now. and hasent come out in days. plus she hasnt really had an apitite in weeks. this leads me to believe she is in brumation of some sort. the vet did not agree with me at all

I live in Canada as well. For some reason, when the temperature starts getting warm outside, Gucci starts slowing down, stops eating, and starts pooping more. Then one day I'll wake up and he's in hiding and doesn't come out for about a month or two. I wake him and give him baths and feed him, which keeps him up for about 3 days, but then he poops all the food out and he's gone again for another couple weeks. It's really odd. Especially since this is the second summer he's done this. He also did it in December though too. I dunno...

Hello,

Those Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulbs, they look short. Are they compact tubes? How old are they? They are directly overhead on the lid, right?
The calcium needs to be given 4-5 times per week or should have been when she was under 1 year of age since she should still be growing a little bit.
If anything, she could be a bit hypocalcemic which can cause lethargic behavior.
A blood draw will not cause her to lose her tail, unless the vet broke her tail doing it. That does not happen unless the vet is incompetent & does not restrain them while drawing blood.
That is really odd, AlanHJ because the days lengthen out which is what is the normal cause of them going into brumation. Be sure to check your lights & change out the UVB lights every 5 or so months.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
