I think I want to give away my bearded dragon

...Hey everyone... This is hard for me but I do not think I can give my bearded dragon the proper attention and care it needs... I have owned my bearded dragon for maybe half a year now... I know im not a horrible owner... But just not the best... It has gained soooo much colour since I have gotten it... But I just cant do it anymore... Is their any place like a known pet store or something that purchases or just takes bearded dragons... Im just so hurt right now but I feel I have to do this... Thanks

If you are going to offer him for free, why not post in the 'for free' section and see if anyone here is willing to take him - im sure you want to know that he is going to a great home!

Because I can't ship the poor thing... And I would rather not be involved with strangers, but if there is absolutely no other option then I will

Perhaps if there was someone nearby, you could meet them away from your home. If a pet store takes him, he really could end up with anyone..... To me, this board would be the first place I would offer him to ensure (as much as possible) that he gets a good home.

I would check into reptile rescues, maybe there is one local.

There is a reptile rescue train in the Rescue section, maybe they would know someone local who'd take your beardie. I hope you find a good home for your beardie.

where are you located if you mention where someone here might step up for you. I wouldnt give to the pet stores as they often dont give proper care.

I am sorry you have to let your beardie go what age is your baby and do you have any pictures?

Are you getting rid of the whole set up as well

nothing to feel bad about.

it's actually very admirable that you identify the issue and are taking steps to take care of it.

there are a lot of people that are no where near as good of a beardie owner than you that just neglect them instead of giving them up.

Sorry to hear but it is great you are working hard to find a new home. I bet someone from NJ area will respond I too would not give it to a petco or petsmart.

I'm sorry you need to do this but bless you for making such a wise decision. If you have any reputable reptile (exotic) veterinarians in your area, consider contacting them and see if they could refer you to someone who would be interested. At the least they might have a bulletin board you could post a notice to. When I was looking for a vet in my area, the phone book was virtually useless as none of the listings showed whether or not they treated exotics so I had to telephone each and every one of them. A total pain, but the effort bore fruit in the end. Wish you the best with your efforts and hope that someday you will find yourself in a position to try again.
