Hello. I have had a dubia colony for about a year maybe more. I didnt touch the colony for 8 mths, so it would flourish. I have a million little babies. Anywho I have noticed that my colony has really slowed down and I think I may have been feeding females to my beardie. I am so confused and have read everything I can about sexing which obviosuly isnt helping if I am feeding females. I have been feeding the dubias with wings, but I seem to be running out of winged dubias and have an excess of the striped ones, so this is why I think I may be doing it wrong. Can anyone help me figure this sexing thing out?

I think you want to keep the ratio about 1 male to 5 females. If there are too many males, they will fight over the females. But if there are more too many females, then there just isn't enough to impregnate very many. I'm still pretty new to it so I could be wrong. Males are the ones with the wings.

Thanks. So if the male dubia have wings then I have almost no males left and an abundance of females. Who knows of a breeder in Canada that wouldnt mind sparing me some male dubias?

just feed nyphms for a little bit while your male population has time to recoup.

I think I probably have the answer to my own question, but would you suggest separating my breeding colony from the ones I feed? and do you know when a nymph gets wings, so I am able to tell them apart?

Nyphms only get wings when they become adults. The really fat black ones are your females, they have the tiny wings, and the full body winged are your males. Personally I do not separate them, but many comercial breeders do, mainly preference.

The males are the ones with long wings, the females are the ones that have litle wings that kinda look like they're wearing a "vest:"

All the "babies" are nymphs, you should have all different sizes of nymphs....alot of those nymphs will be males...once they mature into adults you will have lots of males again....

You can easily spot the males, females and nymphs in this pic!

Dubia Roaches are Illegal in Canada. Only legal ones I believe are standard Cockroaches and German Cockroaches (Are they the same thing? Which if one gets out, prepare for a whole house infestation.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
