i need help with my new tank

Hi there i am hoping someone can help me and point me in the right place.

I have a bearded dragon of about 4-5 mouths old we had him of a friend of mine. The tank he was in was a 2 foot glass tank with all the bits we needed. He was very happy in there was eating well running around well just being himself.

We got him a new tank with some stuff in i will give you the list that we got.
Vivexotic LX Vivarium Range
4ft in length, 15" deep and 16" tall.
B1 Range are dimming thermostats
Exo Terra Sun Glo Daylight Basking Light 50 wat
Exo Terra Repti Glo 10.0
Exo Terra Light Unit Controller
Exo Terra Glow Light

Now we set the new tank up put all the stuff in and put him in it. He was ok for a day then just went down hill he was turning black not eating was sleeping all the time he was cold to the touch i was so worried about him that i moved him back to his old tank. with in 3 hours he was ok was not black still was not eating right but he did take some food and not sleeping so much.

My question is have i got all the right stuff for his new tank am i missing anything at all his old take is warm but his new tank seems cold all the time even with the lamps on. I am sorry that this is a long post.

50 watt seems a little to small for the size viv. Are you checking his temps? Should be between 105-110 in the basking spot. He should not be cold to the touch, their belly should always be a little warm during the day.

Hi yes we was checking his temps and they were only getting up to 95 in the hot end.
what is the best type of heat bulb to get him. We just can not get the tank to warm up any more.
i will put pictures on of the old tank and the new tank and if any one can help and tell us what we need that would be good

I personally use a zoo med basking bulb. I would suggest you buying a 75 and 100 watt and see which one works better and take the other one back. Here is a cheap web site.

Your basking bulb doesn't have to be one from a pet store. I just use a regular halogen flood bulb that I got at walmart.


As for your UV, most people recommend using the repti-SUN, not the repti-glo.

Any bulb that will keep your basking spot warm enough.
And yes, reptiSUN. The bulb should stretch at least 2/3 the length of your tank, so for yours the 36" bulb would be best.
