I need help!!! New to beardies and having issues!!

I am new to dragons and we adopted a male that is a little over a year old.. He loves my wife and is great with all the kids. I am skiddish with him but he lets me love him and pet him no issues. But lately he's been biting her sleeves and attacking random cords if left on the floor for a min.. We always watch him he's never unattended but I just wanna know if this behavior is normal. I figured maybe it was hormones or maybe he just had a few bad days. But he seems to be more and more cranky..! I just want some general help cause I'm having no luck finding anything about behavior like this. I will change anything or do anything to make sure he's healthy and happy if someone is willing to lend me some knowledge !!

Welcome to the forum! This behavior could certainly be just a mood or it could be hormones at his age. You'll likely see beard puffing and head bobbing as well if this is the case but they're all a bit different.

If you can provide some information about your setup including tank size, substrate, temperatures, and what you have in place for lighting I'll be glad to review it and see if anything stands out as a possible issue. Details about his diet and any supplements you offer will also be helpful. Thank you for taking the time to help me with my issues. I have a friend who has years of experience and vast knowledge about beardies And other reptiles and was kind enough to donate some of his time to us and come help us in person. We had changed his lights and basking area " upgraded his habitat" and didn't realize how sensitive they can be to change. We had no idea that he needed ample time to adjust to his new stuff. So taking him out of the enclosure several times in those first few days is what my friend said was causing his issues. We had him looked at by the vet too and he checks out health and happy. Was a very easy pleasant visit to the vet as well. I've found this website to be the best source of info and help with all the issues I've run into and general questions I've had. thank you to all who have helped answer my question or taken the time to offer ideas.

It's great that you have a friend nearby with plenty of experience who can offer help. It's also great that you've found a good vet in the area. If you have any other questions or would like to share stories about your buddy please feel free to post as much as you'd like.

Please be careful with vets, make sure they are reptile specialist. I found a lot of information/help here on this site. I have experienced a couple vets that was horrible & if I would of continued the care that he told me to, my beardie would of died within a couple months. Glad to hear you have gotten things cleared up for your beardie
