I need help finding a Lighted lid for a 36X18X18 Exo Terra t

Hi, I picked up a 36X18X18 Exo Terra front opening tank, I wanted a 48X24X24 but they were on back order for another month or so. Anyway I have a T5 HO light with basking bulb attached and have it mounted under the lid. The lid is a screen lid with Plastic reinforced braces, I really would like a lid that has basking and Uv built in so I can raise the light a bit and not have it right in the tank and I also want it to look good and not just something thrown together sort of like a fish tank lid. Thank you.

Hi there, can you post pics of the set up ? For the record, the uvb can sit on top + still produce good uvb since the tank is not tall and especially if you use a reflector. [ Even aluminum foil ]

But is it to make it look better that you want the lights inside ?

If you're using a T5 10.0 bulb then it's probably better to have it on top of the screen because those are pretty powerful and you can actually get too much UVB exposure with it inside the tank. The closest your lizard should ever be to it without a screen in front of it is about 12 inches. So as long as you don't have a very elevated basking spot it may be okay.

Many posts have been made here regarding the use of 1/2 wire "mesh" which is basically kind of like chicken wire. You can use that in place of the fine screen that comes with it and the lights can sit on top and shine through unobstructed. It's what I use.

I just mounted a low profile zoomed fixture inside my Exo Terra by cutting 4 tiny holes in the screens right against the longer corss-bar and zip-tying the fixture to the cross-bar. It is very secure and since it's a low-profile fixture, it isn't too bulky and doesn't drop the bulb down too low inside the viv. Here are some pics. Note: this set-up is for fire skinks with a Reptisun 5.0, but the same method would work for a beardie with a Reptisun 10.0.
