I have a bit of a different twist on it.

Essentially the question is "can I let two bearded dragons run together". I have googled for several hours trying to find the same situation that I am in, but no one else seems to be in the same circumstances. I have come to ask you experts for advice.

SO.
We have a single Female dragon called Eva. Yes, just one dragon(I'd like to get another - hence this question).
We got her from someone my dad knows who is going through a difficult situation. it was supposed to be temporary, but it has turned into a permanent place of residence for her. I am okay with that, as she is pretty low maintenance(But dealing with the dead crickets.. UGH...) and all we have to do to make her happy is feed her and let her roam the house for most of the day.
She used to live with another beardie(They never did find him) and they got along fine when running around together. I am very interested in Silkback bearded dragons and would love to add another bearded dragon to my collection of animals. But I just don't want to get another if it would make it inconvenient and have to start a schedule for letting them roam. So my question is,
My Bearded dragon gets along well with almost all animals(Even the rabbits.. its a strange sight..) and there is usually a small amount of supervision(There are 6 of us and when we pass her we always check to see what shes doing.. she does crazy stuff.). would she get along with another beardie or not? I'm sorry if this post went around in circles or wasn't very informative. Very sick on this end lol.

Thanks in advance.

I let my male and female out together with no problems (usually)... Every now and then there was some black bearding and head bobbing done by the male, and my female would respond with arm waving and she'd wiggle the very tip of her tail. Then they'd just leave each other alone. There was ONE squabble that I had to intervene and separate them.

They were housed in seperate enclosures, stacked on top of each other - so they couldn't even see each other when in their enclosures.

Now, that's just my two. Depending on the temperment of different beardies, you might get different outcomes...

Yes they can roam together even live together if trained,me and my friends we put screens between the enclosures to get them use to each other,we did this for 2-3 months and after a while removed the glass screen we all have happy bearded dragons living together with no issues :)

If you intend on getting a silkback, I wouldn't let them out together. Since beardies are unscoial to one another, often fighting, and the silkback is a very delicate type of dragon, I wouldn't. I don't let my beardies out together in general paranoia, but that's just me.

Oooh, good point about the Silkback.

I can't let my two out /together/. They'll be out of their cages at the same time but if they're in the same room together, my horny male will try to get after my sister's female dragon, so they normally are in seperate rooms, Riza with my sister and Scout with me. When they are out together, we're right there supervising them.

if there is a fairly big size difference i would wait until the other beardie catches up in size. a baby beardie could look like food to an adult.

Good point, Bunny. We have a new baby coming in 10 days and she will definitely change some of our run around rules here. She is just about 7" and my two are 16 and 18". I have no doubt that she will NOT be a welcome addition in our home. They will get used to her eventually and we can start examining how to handle playtime again. But for now I see no reason to even consider letting them around her.

Until she arrives... we let both of ours out, but very, very heavily supervised. I'm struggling enough boosting Fluffy's weight and getting everything she needs into her. The last thing I need is for her to be laying eggs.

Not to disregard your question, but I was just curious as to how long you let your dragon out for - and how long you think they can be out without getting too cold? I've always wondered & haven't found any precise info. Anyway, I don't really have an opinion about roaming together as I don't have much experience with that. However, I DO have two adult females who were cohabitating and got into a fight even though they had lived together forever. Wouldn't reccomend housing together for numerous reasons.

I have 5 male dragons & they all have their own tanks. One day I made a mistake, Didi was hiding, I forgot he was out, so let Leo out. Well a minute later I walked back into the living room & their tails were masses of blood. They'd attacked each other, Leo almost lost 2" of his tail & they both had lacerations down. I soaked them daily in a weak Betadine bath for 10 min, then covered their tails with polysporin. Needless to say that was the last time any of them were out with each other.

I also was just shown a thread that broke my heart, here is the connection:
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=169156&start=15

I know alot of people co-habitate their dragons & that's their decision, but dragons are very solitary & territorial animals & you never know when they'll be fighting & alot of times fighting to the death. Everyone has their own opinion on dragons & if some get along, that's wonderful. I'd love to be able to have my dragons play together, but that is not to be.

Here is another thread that shows the results of fights from beardies cohabitating or being allowed out together. It's a subject that has been gone over a few times on this site & alot of people are against it, and this is the reason:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=154908&p=1359491&hilit=cohabitation#p1359491

It's something to consider. Beardies are hard to train to be together. I have a friend that her two females share a large viv and have always gotten along. Yet I've heard different from other people. It's a touchy subject as it can cause serious fights & awful results.

So it's a question to be thought out very carefully. If you decide to let two beardies roam together, then it would be important to keep your eye on them and also important that they be at least the same size.

I wouldn't do it either! When I had 2 dragons (before my oldest passed away) he would always try to attack my other one through the glass. I had to cover my younger one's tank when my older one was out, or else he would just stomp, blackbeard and try to charge at the tank to get at my younger dragon. My older dragon was the most docile thing in the world...until he saw my younger dragon, then he turned violent! I couldn't imagine what would have happened had they both been out at once. :?

Thank you so much for the responses guys!
I've decided against getting another bearded dragon, at least for now. We are very happy with Eva and I'm glad I got some great responses ! :)

Haha it's ok :) Eva has a bit of a unique situation. I'm homeschooled, and my dad is the only one who works steady hours(sister/brother are part time) in a house of 6. We usually let Eva out in the morning and she roams until it gets darker. If we leave her out when it's dark she finds a place to sleep and it can be VERY hard to find her. She has two basking areas, though. One is behind a couch(it's perfect for climbing, she can scale the back with ease) and the other is by a big glass door(we lock it when she's by it so people don't swing it open and let her out). I know she doesn't get her UV rays from it, but she's happy and stays warm. So probably about 10-14 hours a day.
Edit: by basking spots I mean natural light.

She won't get enought UVB if the natural light is through a window, so you really need to leave her in her tank for at least 5 hour a day under the UVB so she's getting enough. Without it she can get sick. I have experience with this, as I rescue beardies who haven't had sufficient UVB & it's not a good thing. I let my beardies roam one at a time but I have a power sun (mercury vapour light) at the top of a ramp on a lampstand, so even if they're out, they have a basking/UVB spot, so still get sufficient UVB during the day. It's really important for her, so please make sure she gets her UVB before she roams the rest of the house. I think it's great that she roams, gives her lots of exercise, but UVB is important for her health.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
