Thanks all.....my hubby made sure to tell me to make sure that I NEVER told anyone what happened.

I vaguely remember him comming up behind me in the kitchen. I had Diablo head down over the sink. He was limp, he wasn't breathing and I am spitting out a stream of obscenities, mixed with prayers, and working on him and I think he said something like "Jesus, I can't believe this is going on in my house!"

I think I told him to shut up and to kiss my a$$ and continued working on the lizard.

Then this morning he got up and checked him (he was secretly worried) and came and told me that he had a talk with Diablo about why he would try to "end it all" at Christmas. He said Diablo told him, he wouldn't try it again!

So I have a nutty life and I am a nutty wife and I have a nutty husband. But all is well and everyone is alive!!! Merry Christmas!!!

And to pay it forward I answered a few Beardie ER questions!!!

I'm so happy that he responded to your beardie cpr and that he seems to have had a positive recovery. Let us know what the vet has to say. Oh... if the husband doesn't kiss ya... just get your beardie kisses ... :)

Lizzy and I had a similar experience in September. I always kept a small water bowl in the viv, and one day I'd had him out, fed and played with him and put him back just before I was leaving for work. I walked back past the viv and there he was on his back, his face and head in the bowl! He was whiter than white with a very black beard and his tongue hanging out. His entire face and mouth were under water! I think he had climbed on top of his cave and then perhaps tried to do one of his flying leaps off it, falling sideways into the bowl. When I grabbed him, he was like rubber, with water running out of his nose and mouth. I wrapped him in a towel and held him upside down and shook him very gently, hoping to drain all of the water out of him. About a tablespoon came out between his nose and mouth, and I was certain he was dead because he seemed to have no life and his tongue was just hanging out of his mouth. I was crying and begging him not to die and just held him upside down and shook gently, and my husband Gary walked in and wanted to know what was going on. I was still holding him upside down and gently shaking him , and then I tried the CPR thing too, cupping my hand around his face and blowing gently. He still seemed gone, but I laid him on top of the cave in the basking spot hoping for a miracle. By this time, Gary is crying and asking what else we can do for him, and all of the sudden, Lizzy took a big gulpy breath, and I was not sure if I 'd imagined it or not, but I kept watching and a few minutes later, another big gulpy breath. A few more minutes and more gulpy breaths and the black beard went away. We let him lay in the basking spot for as long as he wanted and I went off to work. An hour later, Gary called to say that he was just fine and running around like nothing had happened.

I removed the bowl - he gets a very supervised bath every other day, and I've read on here about them not needing it. Trust me, that bowl is GONE!

This brings me to another question - I think I read on here that Beardies can close their nostrils for like 30 minutes. Does anyone know about this?

Oh, and by the way, Gary still kisses me even after Lizard lips have touched mine. :blob5: :blob5:
And he was pretty impressed with my Lizard CPR skills.

So glad to hear he is ok. What a total cutie! What kind of diet do you have him on--800g is a whopper ;)

He is on a diet because he topped the scales at 850 g the other day, I haven't weighed him in a few weeks, but he looks like he lost a little weight.

He loves superworms and hornworms. He hates veggies. I only feed worms every other day. The rest of the time his veggies are available. He likes bell pepper and anything I wiggle like a bug in front of his face. Otherwise, he IS NOT EATING ANYTHING OUT OF A BOWL!

He is a brat. And that is why he is fat!! But we are working on it. He was 850 grams and 22 inches long last time we measured and weighed.

His friend Ash is all about brumation and has already decided to pack it up for the winter. I will continue to soak him and monitor him.

Hello,

That is great he is doing well now! The story is hilarious, I can imagine what everything must have looked like that day.
I know your hubby was worried, secretly, of course!
He probably is not liking his diet, huh? Some just don't like or eat their veggies or greens. At least he is doing better & all back to normal now!

Hope you had a great Christmas & New Years.

I had the same kind of thing happen with a very large green iguana. I left the bathroom, came back and he was completely submerged under the water! I pulled him out and freaked out, 'pounded' on him and after what seemed like an eternity he started breathing again and angrily tail-whipping.

Unfortunately I found him dead in his cage within a few weeks! I had him for about a month because his old owner couldn't care for him. I don't know if his death was related to the bathtub incident or not. I hope your beardie continues to be healthy. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
