Hurt Dragon

Sub Adult dragon slid head first down between wooden viv wall and a Grout covered Styrofoam rock? When I pulled her out she looked as if she was bleeding from her nose slightly. Her beard and front feet were slightly blackened. I don;t know how long she was head down vertical but I did not see her breathing right when I pulled her out and I thought she was dead. After I pulled her out I noticed her breathing. I will take her in to the vet first thing in the morning but any advice until then would be awesome.

Hello
So sorry I didnt see the thread sooner.First let me say your doing the correct thing by getting her to the vet ASAP.Is she still bleeding?Any visible signs of injury? How is her breathing now?How far a fall exactly was it?

Providing she didnt fall to far and there isnt major head traum going on I think she will probably be ok although she may need some meds to help reduce/prevent swelling.Hopefully the injury itself was not caused by the fall but just scrapes from trying to escape and the breathing might of been her in panic.

At the moment the best thing to do is to make sure she is nice and warm tonight. Also be sure to clean the blood off with warm water and if external wounds are present then you could apply some neosporin on the wounds.I would remove any objects that she may attempt to climb as you do not want to add insult to injury by a secondary fall.Tonight you can either lay her in her tank on a soft surface(towel works well)and try to ensure her tank stays 70-75F if possible.I do hope she is ok.Let me know how the vet goes.Good Luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. It was not a far fall the top of her rock perch is only about 16 inches and her weight pushed it out from the back of her viv and she slid head first and was wedged behind the rock and between the rock and the back wall of the viv.
There was some blood from her nose not much at all and she is not bleeding.
What concerned me the most she was not responsive when i pulled her out. Now she is breathing apparently normal but not moving at all. I placed her in another smaller tank and will wash her up and lay her on a nice soft place.

Her beard, front legs and about 1/2 of her tail are black? Should I be concerned about that?

Ok so she isnt moving her limbs at all? There may be a spinal injury or she could just be in pain. What happens when you touch her limbs?Any response? As for the blackening this happens when they are in pain, ill, unhappy or in distress. If she can move her limbs and is choosing not to move then it is most likely from exhaustion and stress.

We gently picked her up and gave her a nice bath. She raised her head and moved her legs just a little bit. Much more hopeful than I was a short time ago. I am feeling more confident on her recovery.

Thank you for the help

Hello,

OH poor girl. So she is doing a little better this evening after a bath?
I agree with Vicky, a black beard can indicate pain or distress. However, if it is lightening up, it was most likely stress related. An x-ray will show any injury that she may have.
I think since she was facing down vertically, that her circulation probably got a little messed up. I hope that she will be ok!
Let us know what the vet says.

This morning she's doing 100% better. Her beard is normally colored, along with her feet and most of her tail. She moved off the blanket she was sleeping on and is resting her front legs on a log under her basking spot. Normally she would get either some crickets or superworms - should we smash up the crickets so she doesn't have to move around too much to eat her breakfast, or should she just get some supers today? Or, should she only get greens today - normally she'd get both, but the greens won't put up a fight to be eaten! Thank you everyone for all your help - it was a long night, but now she's looking at me like, "where's breakfast?"

So sorry to hear about your girl's accident. Glad to hear she is doing better!

If you want to slow down her crickets for her, you can put them in the frig first or you could also remove their legs.

Good Luck! :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
