OMG so if you can't afford the $200 permit then they are giving people 30 days to get rid of their reptiles.

That is just wrong.

From the article it's the dealers that have to pay $200, $25 is for owners, but my question is it for multiples or for a single reptile. I've been hearing about this, didn't realize it was going to happen. Does this mean if you have reptiles already, you still have to pay for the license? There's nothing like that in Canada yet for reptiles, but there is something going on about snakes. Good luck

Oh, ok I read the $200 incorrectly. Well, $25 is better, but I hate to see harmless reptiles regulated. :(

I has to pay $10 for my permit.

I am not against this. $25 is just added to the expenses of the care of your reptile, and it would deter spontaneous purchases (hopefully).

$25 for a possession permit. It is not clear whether a possession permit would cover multiple animals.

every year i need to send in money for owning my reptile that i purchased through petsmart in NJ, the one that i got in PA did not require this.

i'm sorry, but if you cannot afford the $25 [yearly] permit how can you afford the initial $200+ setup and $60+ monthly feeding?

The commission would not be able to grant any permits until it “is satisfied that the provisions for housing and caring for the nonindigenous or exotic reptile or amphibian and for protecting the public are proper and adequate and in accordance with the standards established by the commission.”

What could or probably will happen, given this is another government institution to tell us how to take care of reptiles. We all know how many people out there try to tell us that how we take care of beardies is wrong that they need all such things that are harmful to their health. I understand why some people would like this issue but I don't. Every time the government gets involved in our lives, trying to regulate how we live, how we take care of our kids (human or otherwise) it causes more problems than it wants to solve. When/if this passes, you will have a group of people that probably won't know anything about beardies or other reptiles telling us how to take care of them, even if their way of doing things is wrong for one reptile and right for another, we have to do things there way or our beloved beardies might be taken away from us and given to someone that will do things their way when their way might/will cause the reptiles ill health.

A couple of years ago our state put in a yearly fee for Off Road Vehicles, it wasn't much but it was supposed to go to making more roads for us ORV users. Recently we got a letter in the mail telling us what the fees that we've paid went to, it all went to government bureaucracy. That did nothing it was supposed to do. I let them know I wasn't pleased when I heard about it and asked one of the state congressmen why they voted for this and was told what the $ were going for. This is why I don't like this type of thing. We don't need any government bureaucracy telling us how to live our lives, this will only escalate if it's allowed to pass.

there is no possible way that they can visit every persons home to evaluate the habitat they live in.

and the standards would be based on exotic vet specialists, not pet stores.

not one person has come into my home to tell me how to take care of my reptiles.

now if there is a health issue and you go to the vet, and that vet determines that their health issues are because YOU are not keeping a correct habitat, then i would say that the vet would report you to those in charge. then someone would come to your home to evaluate the living conditions, maybe.

don't you think it's a good idea to help remove these poor animals from the hands of people who refuse to take care of them properly? even then, if they don't go to the vet no one would know that there is anything wrong.

if this passes the government is not going to barge into your home and take your pets from you.

Bunnyrut if you read through it there is a part saying that until they see you're setup no permit will be issued

“is satisfied that the provisions for housing and caring for the nonindigenous or exotic reptile or amphibian and for protecting the public are proper and adequate and in accordance with the standards established by the commission.”

this could also mean that you need to show receipts for proof of purchase. or send a picture.

you have 30 days to apply for the permit after purchasing your exotic animal, so you should have everything ready by then.

but if it is anything like the NJ permit it will ask you to DESCRIBE your set up.

here is the permit for you to see:

Nope.. here's how I view it - you say it's fine to start taking rights away from people here and there until finally one of your rights is taken from you... that's how this stuff works. In my opinion, the more freedom, the better for me in the longrun - I won't mess with your rights and you don't mess with mine.

The problem is I don't think this would be a law to help reptile kind I think it is their way of protecting people from the evil slimy reptiles. . Not my view but a lot of people's. .. I also think that they are trying to phase out reptiles as pets because its not what they think of as a pet. If it was for animal safety that would be one thing but I don't think that's what this will be about

I think this is about them controlling our lives, telling us what to like, what to think, how to act, how to sneeze and any other thing they can think of to totally control our lives. These people seem to think they know what's best for us then we do.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
