Hi all,

We just picked up our 2yr old BD, it was our son's 3rd grade class pet.
His/her name is Spike...I know...but c'mon a bunch of third graders named it. :)

We have some changes/improvements to make on its enclosure but that will come in time.
You can check out some of my newb questions in the Enclosures Forum.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the response!

I wasn't really sure if he'd be healthy so thanks for your input.
We've only had him for 2 days now and he already pooped and is eating some kale, apple and grapes.
We have super worms, phoenix worms and crickets on standby.

The previous owner only fed him meal worms (I know, not good) and occasionally crickets.
So I'm trying to get him into a better diet...so far, so good. :D

It's good that you are trying to get him into a healthier diet. I suggest going to this site for more information on the good,not-so-good and bad foods for them: http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutritionframeset.html

Here Kale is a "feed occasionally" food and Spinach, while good for us humans to eat, is a "questionable" food. From what I've read, both kale and Spinach can bind calcium in their bodies so they don't get enough calcium to bind in their bodies and it causes issues. This is just a suggestion, not intended to criticize.

Thanks again, all info is always appreciated.

We actually used that site to determine what is ok to buy and feed. Top veggies like turnip and mustard greens were not available so we went with the "feed occasionally" item. I'll make sure we don't over use it.

He looks super healthy, and sweet.

Thanks, he is definitely sweet.
We had him out of the enclosure for the first time yesterday. We put him on the floor and sat in a circle...my wife, me and our two boys. At first he just stood there motionless then without warning he ran and leaped into my wife's lap.

Smart lizard...

I am glad you found that site for nutrition for bd's. I thought that you didn't know about it, being new on here. It's good you won't go overboard. We made that mistake with Goldie as she loved zucchini and I didn't notice that it, also, was on the occasional list until later. She wouldn't eat it after I told her it wasn't good for her. She was a smart beardie. She was one who loved to learn. Miss O loved to learn also. Miss Y was our ornery beardie. Rosie is becoming more loving, like Redrock was. Lil Squirt is our very stubborn beardie. They all have unique personalities and are fun to learn about. I wish you many years of fun learning about your Spike.

LOL and thanks!

Yes, this is the fun part for me. So much to read, learn and absorb.
My wife and kids do the day to day care and I provide the "expert" technical support.

...with help from those with real experience and knowledge, like you. :D

Thanks again!

My BD seems to like collard greens (which are green, meaning it can be fed daily, used as a staple on that nutritional chart) more than kale, and yellow squash. He won't touch pellets, though. I'm always checking that nutritional chart on beautifuldragons.com, usually while I'm standing in the produce department. I bought some mango, red apples and strawberries yesterday on a whim (occasionally for each, according to chart) but I haven't given him any yet. I've tried chopped-up celery ... No interest whatsoever. He didn't seem to care for watermelon either. But he loves his crickets! (And I hate them.)

Thanks.

We do the same thing, have a BD shopping list based on the beautifuldragons chart.

We haven't had him long but so far we've had success with kale, apples and grapes.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
