how to wire lamp socket to extension cord

ok so im having alittle trouble doing some wiring to finish off my tank
i went to home depot and bought a lamp socket fixture to hold my heatbulb.

so heres my prob the lamp socket only has a black and white wire
the extension cord has 3 wires two grey ones and one green one which is the middle wire
(the extension cord has 3 prongs)

now how would i hook that extension cord to my fixture to make it work....without causing a fire.

did i get the wrong parts?

You can use the 2 greys and cut of the green one. The green is just a ground wire used for tools and appliances. It isnt needed for a light socket. Hope this helps.
