How to mount Arcadia Reptile ProT5 UV-B Kit

Hi there,

I was on the forum in December about my bearded not doing so well. After taking her to the vet he diagnosed her with mbd. I feel like it's not getting any better. She barely eats at times too. I have a 67 gallon set up now. The enclosure is 18 inches tall and I'm wondering if I switch to the arcadia can it be sat on top of the screen? Right now have the reptisun 10.0 t8 mounted inside and I just want to get the best uvb possible for her so this doesn't get any worse.

Hi there it depends on the screen -- can you post a pic of your screen please - it can go on top but it depends on that - the T 8 is good but if she shows no sign of getting better w/ the T 8 then it would probably be best --- is the T 8 directly over her w/ a basking distance of 6-8 inches ?

The t8 has been over her directly and sometimes I've felt like It's too close in some areas with the levels of the basking rock she sits on. I honestly have probably re arranged the lights a lot just trying to get the right set up. I'm sitting in front of her tank at the moment debating once again what to do. Her little feet have been swollen and she looks like she's getting an indentation down her spine also. She's never been right since bringing her home. I'm new to this and such a worry Wart about it all. Our local pets mart has the arcadia and it's expensive but if I can help her in any way possible then I'll switch it out but I'm hoping I can just get the reptisun in the right areas. I moved the uvb last night thinking she might also be getting an over dose of uvb. Let me know where you think I should place it. Problem is keeping her decorations far enough from it while being mounted inside the tank and getting the basking spot hot enough at the same time.

You have a wide hole screen so that a T 5 can sit on top of the screen - I need to ask is there a clear plastic cover over your bulb? If there is please take it off - you can see if this place is any cheaper for the Arcadia than your Pet Smart Arcadia ProT5 UVB Kit 24" you would want the 12% bulb
Your using the same log type decor for her that I have in my two tanks I have mine under the basking lamp and I have the long stick part on the floor of the tank w/ the big trunk part under the basking lamp - it makes for a good gradient heat -
distance for the T 8 should be 6-8 inches -
Please post a pic of her so we can see her and then go from there on what will help her

We took the clear plastic off immediately when we bought the fixture and haven't used it since. I've been debating about laying that log down also to use for my basking. She has problems climbing and the rock here has helped her but at this point I'll try anything. The humidity in this tank has been down to 10 percent constantly also. I don't know if I should get loose substrate instead. Like I said I've been a nervous wreck over it all. I spend most my days trying to get this all right.

I dont recommend loose substrate - what are you using for substrate now it looks like a sand mat? If you wanted to go to something easier to clean you could get some textured NON adhesive shelf liner - it can be found at Walmart or your local home improvement store cut it to the size of your tank insects cannot get underneath - I would recommend you go w/ the Pro T 5 or even a Zoo Med fixture for her w/ the Reptisun 10.0 T 5 bulb- the T 8's are not that strong and w/ her having difficulty getting around it will help but if it is true MBD it will prevent it from getting worse but will not cure it - the distance for the T 5 would be different from the T 8 as well - the swollen feet could be from the UVB but I am wondering if its not gout - only a blood test for uric acid would tell you - there is medication for gout - its called Allopurinol - lets have AHBD take a look at her and have her give some advice on what you can do - I do see her back leg looks swollen -

I'll pick the arcadia up today. Pets mart is selling it for 5 dollars more and I have a gift card to use towards it so I'll get that done today. The mat is shelf liner from the dollar general for 6 bucks. I had reptile carpet and will never use that again. Such a pain to clean . I just moved the log over and I'm going to use that for her basking. She refuses her veggies. I've given her some cherry juice here and there also. The swelling shows up over night and last time she had the same swelling it went down within a few days. The arcadia will be so much easier too to deal with instead of trying to move this one around inside of the tank. Plus this fixture is an 18 inch and pets mart has the 24 inch. I'll order for pick up right now. Is it OK the humidity is 10 percent? I've tried misting but that gets to be a big pain.

Please get a bowl of water on the basking side - your hygrometer could be off are you using a dial one if you are I recommend a digital probe one - here is a link for one pet smart might have one too you can look Exo Terra Digital Hygrometer | Dubia.com'
Place the probe on the back center wall of the tank and it should read the whole tank - optimal humidity is 40-50% I dont let mine go below 19-20% or it never has gotten this high and you dont want it this high 70% - if your humidity is not getting to 19-20% then you can get a small humidifier place beside the tank - I have on running now between my two tanks - its keeping them in the 20% range now and at night they get to around 30's % -- the cherry juice is good but I would like AHBD and Drache613 to look at her and have them advise you further - Drache613 is our vet tech and she is usually on at nite - if your going to keep the T 5 on top of the screen please place a piece of decor directly under it 8-10 inches

After checking out with the arcadia pets mart notified me it's out of stock. The reptile site is also out of stock. I can't find one on Amazon either. I guess I'll have to wait until they get them back in. I'll continue to look too at other places. The hygrometers are just the stick up ones from Amazon. I have a feeling they are off too. I placed a water fall in her tank a while back too and it doesn't seem to help much at all. I also have a bowl. I'll try the probe ones and see if it's just these not working right. She's basking happily on the log now and it seems like her colors are coming out better as she's sitting there. I'm hoping my basking bulb is getting warm enough at the spot. It's 150 watt on a dimmer.

Are you using a digital probe thermometer to get her surface basking temps? I have a website that has the shade dweller in stock but I am not sure if they are the same ones we are looking at I need to find out --

I have 2 of the probe thermometers. She is sliding off the log a bit. I'm trying to get her all situated . Moving the reptisun to be directly over her. I think the shade dwellers might be different but not exactly sure. I've been doing research on the acadia last night but can't find much about them

I am thinking the shade dwellers are for geckos check out this site I have asked someone on the forum about the difference
the person I asked responded and he said this
I don't think so. They are just T5 fixtures. I think the difference is in the bulb. The shade dweller kit has a 7% bulb and the regular kit has a 12%
ok so you dont want the shade dweller --- you want the regular pro T 5 - bulbs arent as strong

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
