Hopefully this is the right place for this post. I realize many people have cats and lizards but this will be first time adding a new animal since getting my beardie a year ago. Have experience with both animals at different stages of my life but not together.

What I remember about cats is them batting everything off everything. I realize I have time until the kitten can do much damage but I’m trying to think of there’s something I can do to secure the lighting setup on top of my tank. Currently the tank it up decently high but I know cats have no real limits. I’m Having trouble finding something from just searching, does anyone have a lighting setup that is cat proof? Should I do a rack with lights attached or some wire mesh box around the lights? Currently they just sit on the metal lid of the tank. I have the UV light, heat lamp and ceramic heat lamp.

I can keep them separate for awhile but I have a one bedroom so it would be nice to let the cat have full reign when I’m gone and me not worry about the house burning down.

Put your tank on a stand alone dresser or stand where they would haft to litterly jump from the floor to the top of the tank - put nothing around it for them to jump on to get to it - cats will not usually jump from something below them to something high that they cannot see to jump to-- I have two tanks in my office that sit one on a dresser and one on a aquarium stand - both have nothing around them and the cats (5) have never tried to jump from the floor to the top of the tanks

You could build a box to contain them (with possibly a second mesh top to prevent overheating). You may also be able to strap them down to the top of the enclosure. If you use a strap I'd double check the weight and make sure the cats can't pry the top off (if it's a top opening enclosure).

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
