I am planning to get my first reptile and I was going to buy a 70 Gal tank with some extras for $125, but my dad said he could build me an enclosure for cheaper . . . don't know how, but OKAY! Anywho, I am in college and living in an apartment. I know it should be around 4X2X2 and all, but I cannot seem to get a straight answer about design. We will probably do like 4X2X1.5 since I want an under storage unit. I have looked all over online, but everything is so overwhelming for a newbie!!!! My dad says he'll use plywood and Plexiglas with a sliding door. I want to use tile as my 'substrate' and maybe backsplash material for the sides. How much venting will be needed and would you suggest a hardwood top with openings for lighting or a mainly screen top with the lights on top (like a tank enclosure)? And most importantly....is it REALLY cheaper to build your own? I mean, really?!
