How Tame Is Your Beardie?

Hey all!
I am curious how tame your bearded dragon is and how long it took to get there?

When I brought Yoshi home she was a baby. She was tame from the very beginning. The very first night she went to sleep in her 40 gallon breeder, she slept on the side of the tank closest to my bed and just kinda fell asleep watching me. It looked like she wanted me to get her out to go to sleep in the bed lol. Also, ever since day one, If I put my arm in the cage she will run up my arm to my shoulder :)

She is almost 4 years old now and has never been hostile towards me. She will let me clip her nails and she is potty trained to go in the bath tub! One of the best lizards I have ever owned!

When I got Hugo from Rio Reptiles, he was so tame. He is now 4 months, and still the sweetest. I have yet to see any hostility or black beard. He cuddles; never runs from me; and very trusting. However, puberty has not arrived. :?

Hey!

Jango is pretty tame.. he's only bit me 3 times since we got him, once when we first got him and he wasn't use to being handled, the second time I think I scared him by reaching into his tank too fast and the third was just recently becaused I scared him once again.. I had him on the window sill and he tried to run off and I quickly scooped him up and startled him. He's about 3 months old now. He will let me take him out of his tank and hold him all the time.. he loves being out.. he will lay on my opened hand while I walk around.. or cling to my shirt... I let him run around on the couch abit and sometimes on my bed or dressers but I don't let him have run of the house.. I'm too afraid he's gonna get behind or under something where I won't be able to get him.

That is great to hear!
The only time Yoshi black bearded at me was when I tried to bring her back in from outside lol but it went away when I picked her up. She was just throwing a hissy fit haha.

My big boy Spike is tame enough that last time I had him at the park with me, about 20 kids came up and sat next to him to see him while he was sunning himself and not once did he flinch, black beard, or run from the kids petting him. I take great pride in how friendly he is around other people.

My Itchy is very tame, which doesn't make a lot of sense, because for a long time he was neglected because I moved out and just as of about a month ago, he moved back in with me. But he was tame from the day I got him. Actually, before then. Every time I'd go to Petsmart (yes, I know...) he'd be at the front of the glass waving at me. He was always really eager to be held, and he always responds when someone comes into the room. It's almost impossible to be in the same room as him, and that's not a good thing, because he's in our living room right now, haha. He glass-dances like crazy. I know it's only because people are there too. I'VE SPIED.

But yeah, he's very tame and loves people, especially my boyfriend and I. ...and my boyfriend's friend Chris, because we're 400% certain that he's the bearded dragon whisperer.

My kids are pretty good too. Bindy just does not care haha. She takes it all like a champ.

Hawkeye is a little more spooky, but if he is unhappy he just runs away. :p Never bit though. Just flinches suddenly which can be startling.

Our new guy, (UGH we need to name him already haha) was out yesterday surrounded by my neighbours and was VERY well behaved :)

Slim is very tame. ... in fact I took him into kindergarten classes and did lessons with him and he never showed any signs of stress or got scared and they where big classes. ..he also just rode five hundred miles on my shirt in a patch of sunshine from the open sunroof of my car yesterday

Mr. Dargon is pretty tame... now.
he was a pet store lizard, so he was very jumpy and hostile in the beginning. mostly puffing and opening his mouth. as he got older he got used to being held and has only bitten me on accident (while feeding, he missed the food and got my finger), and he looked so scared after he bit me. :(
he likes going outside and will go between trying to get away from me and following me around the yard. but he always wants to come out of his viv.
he isn't very social, whenever strangers come near him he tries to hide (mostly when they are in groups), i wonder if that reminds him of him imprisonment at the store.

Tasty Treat is pretty tame and feisty. she's from a breeder so she's used to being held. she also knows how to demand food and clean ups. she wants to explore a lot, but is finally hitting the age where she will chill for a while before darting off. she loves attention, and when someone comes over she watches them. she is content on sitting on her log basking for most of the day.

Well, I just got toothless a few hours ago but I'm quite impressed with him. He eats like crazy but is so mild. He just spent the better part of an hour sleeping on my hand and never once attempted to move.

Izzy Belle is really tame. I have 3 kids range from 4-11 and all hold her and play with her. She has never bitten ( well she did me the other day when a cricket jumped on my hand and she tried to get it.) but other then that she is miss friendly. She has been to the store to get her food and let the workers pet her and never even flinched.

Now with that being said, today my neighbor came up to me today when i was taking the mail out and had izzy on my shoulder. As soon as he got close to us, Izzy bearded for the first time ever!!! I wanted my camera so bad and i got the giggles cause it was so cute. anyway my neighbor is mentally handicapped and izzy is not a fan of him ( but i must say most of the neighborhood animals do not like him). but she has never been bothered by anyone else. even my husband holds her and she just cuddles on him.

Stanley is almost 11 weeks old, so he's still a baby and pretty feisty.

I handle him a lot everyday (at least when I'm not at work - he spends most of the day by himself), so I believe this will help as he gets older.

When I put my hand in his cage, he opens up his mouth and puffs up at me (and he's starting to get the CUTEST little black beard, hahahaha :love5: ) like he really thinks he's going to scare me off, but he has never biten me.

Once I have him in my hand, he calms right down.

Then he'll stay with me for awhile (sometimes only a few minutes, sometimes up to a half hour!), then he gets a case of the "hypers" and shoots off running.

I hope he calms down a bit as he gets older!

haha, I would laugh at Mr Dargon and poke his beard when he puffs at me (mostly when he is outside, that's when he is mr tough guy).
my husband thinks i am cruel because i am hurting his ego by not acting scared.

Yup, you can almost see the embarrassment on Stan's face when I squeal and coo over his "ferocious" behavior... He kind of looks to the side and instantly deflates. :laughing6: When he does that, I always imagine the sound of air being let out of a balloon.

I also named my beardie Yoshi. Mine is not tame however lol. Ive posted a couple topics about him not allowing me to ever pick him up but hes slowly getting better as he gets bigger. I know im not supposed to let him go back into the tank when he squirms but it always feels like hes gonna jump out of my hand so i give in and put him back. On the plus side, he is well aware of where his food comes from (me).

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
