How should I fix this?

Basil's old basking log suddenly had these little bugs in it and was falling apart, so I replaced it with a two by four.
Basil seams to slip on it and he has fallen off a few times :x I dont want him to get hurt so Should I get a new log or carve grooves into the wood and see if thats helps Basil hang on :?:

Yes,try the grooves or else some of that non-slip material you can getat the dollar store should work too!

You can attach repticarpet with a hotglue gun

I saw one guy on Youtube put velcro on repticarpet and a half-log and attached them. The grooves should work, or else you can cut thin pieces off of the bottom of the 2 by 4 and nail them on so they act as rungs.

mabye sanded grout???

Put on paint, then while it's wet, scatter sand over it to give it grip. Seal with matte Mod Podge.
Or you could go with sanded grout.
Really, there's no wrong way to do it, only what works for you
