In the pet stores (chains), a normal beardie generally is in the 60.00 range...they often have fancier ones for 75.00 or so. They are generally much smaller (and therefor much more fragile, less handle-able and much more of a PITA to feed) than pretty much everything sold by the breeders on this site. I got really lucky and got my first beardie following a Craigslist ad locally. THe person I got my beardie from is a hobbiest/breeder...most of her beardies are a bit on the fancier side but my son wanted a real beardie like would live in the wild so we got Norbert...a totally "normal" beardie...for 35.00 dollars. She also had some red ones we could have gotten for the same price if we had prefered. She has also been fabulous for us to know...really nice woman...fun to chat with...and my kids love going to her house to check out her fun stuff! She has lots of birds and beardies and all kinds of feeder projects going on.
My second beardie is a gorgeous orange one that I don't even have yet...but I bought it off of the sale board here for 70.00 shipped...I think it was a totally amazing deal but there are regularly fabulous deals here if you keep watching for them. If shipping is not included, keep that in mind as live animal shipping will add about 40.00 to the cost of your purchase pretty much everytime...sometimes it is more than that.
I am kind of lusting after a beardie on the for sale board that is 350...reduced from 555...but I can't bring myself to pay even the reduced rate quite yet. I have seen beardies listed going up to 2000.00 dollars for really rare crazy looking ones...so there is a HUGE range. It seems like most of the really pretty ones on the for sale board are about 100-200 plus shipping....
All the oranges and reds and yellows regularly appear at lower prices at least sometimes....the leatherbacks a bit less often...colored leatherback even less often than that. The hypos seem to appear at all price ranges but when you combine them with other traits, the price goes up often.
Anyhow...there is a big range for sure...but if you are willing to wait for a bit...I think you can find a ton of great looking gorgeous beardies for about 100.00....or, and I have to say that my totally normal looking beardie is pretty freakin adorable just as she is so as fun as color is, it really isn't everything. I am really worried that my new one is not going to be as fabulous as my current one...
