How many silkworms/day?

Just ordered 25 silkworms from Mulberry Farms - thought I would see if Wave likes them! I've got tons of roaches, but she needs to get a little bigger before she eats many of the ones I've currently got, so I thought I would try a different feeder until she's big enough for supers (she currently gets micro supers for a treat). She eats reptiworms for breakfast, but I try to vary things a little bit for her evening meal.

I know with hornworms, they generally only eat one or two a day, right? Is the same true of silkworms? And if so, about how many should I allow Wave to have (she's about 3.5 months old, was 10" last time I measured her, but we're coming up on another measurement mid-month, and I know she's growing like the proverbial weed...)?

(If she can have as many as she wants, I'm sure 25 will be, at most, two days worth of meals! )

Thanks, guys!

You can actually feed silkworms as a staple so really probably as many as she will eat.. But since they are so expensive maybe just a couple.. And I will tell you that I ordered some from mulberry too and didn't have much luck with them.. there were a few that were full grown when I got them but the others really never grew.. I was kinda disappointed.. Maybe you will have better luck than me :D Hornworms are a different story those things are monsters..lol They grow soooo fast.. Usually if they are full grown scarlett will only eat one and she is done and sometimes she won't eat until the next evening..

hi, if anyone know, help me pls. is it ok to feed 18cm long dragon with silkworm or butterfly version of it? which one is better? or same question on mealworms? it is better to feed them mealworms or bug version of meal worm?? help me pls

I'm kinda confused but I will try to help you.. Silkworms are ok b/c they are bred especially for bearded dragons and there is little or no risk for impaction b/c they are soft and squishy.. Mealworms however are not recommended to be fed at all b/c their shell has chitten which is extremely hard to digest and can and will cause impaction.. Especially in a young dragon under 16 inches.. HOpe this helped :?:

I'm going to try the hornworms next, but thought I would stick to one new feeder at a time! Sounds amazing to feed just one and be done! Scarlett likes them?

Guess it's not the end of the world, with only 25, if they don't grow... but I'll be disappointed, too.

Perhaps I'll give her a few with some of the micro supers, as well, to make them last at least a couple of days! She's been known to eat 60+ (small) reptiworms at a feeding; I don't trust her to not gorge herself! (And this is why the latest order of reptiworms are mediums...)

Thanks!

Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute video! :D I love how she looks at you after finally eating it like "Okay, that was good, where's the next course?"

(And she's so gorgeous... God. Can't get over those colors!)

Will definitely have to try some of those next, then! (Not that there are a whole lot of other choices left... We've already been through crickets, roaches, reptiworms, micro supers, and now silkworms; I think we're about out!)

She clearly needs frequent costume changes instead of a scenery change. Scarlett as rock star! Scarlett as beach bum! Scarlett in name-appropriate, 1860s-era crinoline, with hat and parasol!

I know you can feed the flies that reptiworms become. Not sure about the others. I would imagine beetles have a significant amount of chitin, since they have those thick exoskeletons!

Yeah Scarlett eats them that big and handles them like a pro! ha.. I watch her though and she's never had a problem.. She eats them slow.. They are easy to digest b/c they are so squishy and full of water.

I got two cups of hornworms this time round since right now that's the only feeder Sarth will really eat. One cup had small ones which is fine, I'm letting those grow, while the other cup had medium sized ones. Well that was last week and now they are HUGE!! A couple of them as long (not as thick though) as the pic on the outside of the cup.
I gave one of the really big ones to Sarth and he inhaled it. Totally not interested in the 2nd one, lol. He got liquid guts on his chin and all over the viv, then decided he couldn't wait for his bath to take a giant poop

Silkworms are good though, they are similar to the hornworm in the fact that they're squishy and have no shell at all. Expensive though yes...and die pretty easily :p

I guess as many as they will eat! lol! I know our baby will eat the small ones quite well and our big guy can down 4 large ones no problem! they get HUGE!!!! so do the hornworms! But the hornworms grow too fast I think! I am considering this summer breeding horns and supers and seeing how they do since I will be home all summer! We shall see!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
