They can eat the babies, as long as you go by the rule of 'not longer than the width of their eyes'. However, if you're trying to start a colony I'd recommend you leave it be for at least 6 months. Each female gives birth 1 time per month and has about 20 babies, that's about 300 babies per month (if you have 15 females). Those 300 babies will take about 6 months to reach maturity. Just leave them be and keep them warm
