How long without protein?

Hello guys, I have a problem that I need advice on, or really that I just want to vent on. I live in the desert, middle of nowhere, closest petsmart is 2 hours away. So I order butterworms from an online supplier to feed my 2 year old bearded. Have had zero problems with this system so far. On 11/6, almost 2 weeks ago, I ordered another shipment of worms as my supply would run out that week. On Wednesday I got a confirmation from them that they shipped, which was later than usual but it shouldnt have been a problem. On that Saturday, the 12th, the owner of the pet supply company sent me an email saying they havent been able to get in touch with their worm guy and will let me know the status of the shipment soon. Come Monday, they tell me the order was never actually shipped but there are shipping now and will be here Wednesday or Thursday. Obviously I am annoyed but not worried because back on Wednesday when I got the late shipping confirmation, I went to another website and ordered some silkworms for him since I had always wanted to see if those would be better.

This Wednesday comes around, the 16th, and im starting to worry since its been a good week since he has had any worms, but the silkworms come in. However they were MUCH smaller than I expected and Grunt ate them all in one meal. The next day, Thursday, I still dont have the butters, so I order another batch from a different supplier and leave an angry email and phone call for the original supplier.

So to sum it up, I have no expectation that I will be getting the worms from the original supplier and will probably request a chargeback through paypal, but what Im worried is the new worms wont ship till Monday and will ship on USPS Priority mail meaining 2-3 days. The last time I fed him butters was on on 11/8 and then I fed him silks on 11/16.

Mainly I just want some encouragement that he will be fine. He has been eating his greens daily so at least he is getting food. Im just worried that he isnt getting much protein and the next shipment wont be in for at least another 4 days. If it is urgent enough I can bump up the next shipment to overnight for like $40, but since this week is Thanksgiving week do you think priority mail would still arrive on time?

Thanks for reading guys.

Hi there....he will absolutely be fine. :) At 2 years of age the main diet will be [ should be ] veggies, focusing on leafy greens, some beans and squash. In an emergency you can microwave an egg with no oil or anything. One minute will do....most dragons wiil take a few pieces from your hand eagerly. Don't give him the entire egg though, they are fatty but are still a good source of protein + vitamins.

But he would be fine with veggies for a while, nothing to worry about.

Ok thank you for the reassurance, that is just what I needed to hear.

On an unrelated note, what do you recommend as a protein staple for beardies? Currently he likes his butters and they seem to be a good staple but I have been wondering if I should try roaches or hornworms for him.

Roaches would be the best by far....good amount of protein, easy to keep and not as fatty as worms.

ABHD is spot on for answering your OP question, I just want to chime in that a different staple is probably a good idea. Butterworms are not a good staple - much to high in fat and low in other nutrient compared to other feeders. As suggested for your situation roaches would be a good staple, or crickets I you can deal with them. Silkworms are good too and if you feed them for a bit they will grow to a more reasonable size.

Recently I ordered Repashy Grubpie powered mix. Just boil up some water and add some of the powder, it turns into a jello like substance, good for 2 weeks in the fridge or you can freeze it too. Dragons seem to love it.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
